Okay, so I am sorta disappointed with civ5. I think overall it is not much different from Civ4, I think after the patches and such it will be 'as' good as Civ4. I was hoping for something new and great, however, not a remodeled civ4 for a new generation of players.
But, there are a lot more mechanics to mod this time, even if Firaxis did not use them with too much creativity. Remember how different Ryse and Fall and Fall from Heaven were from Civ4? It should be even more stark of a difference this time.
I think Civ5 may go the path of Civ: colonization, where an obviously superior mod supplants the original game.
So I'm hopeful for the future, for mods that use the combat and social policies mechanics to make a truly interesting game. In the meantime I'll try to win on Deity and hope MP becomes more functional
