Im talking about Chrono Trigger, the SNES RPG classic that I had the chance to play because my good friend let me borrow his Final Fantasy Chronicles cd...

It was made by a squaresoft "dream team". It has an awesome storyline, a very intuitive battle system (no cruddy random battles), memorable characters.

Maybe I am just a softie for SNES RPG's (Secret of Mana is my favorite game of all time) but this game is awesome. Makes me think 100 dollars for the SNES version ISNT overpriced :p

Has anyone else played this game?

How deep....I wasnt really looking for an answer to "What is the best game ever", Im just mainly looking for other people who have played Chrono Trigger and what they thought of it :p

btw, what WAS the most successful game ever? I used to know, but I think its changed over the last 5 or so years...

I have never head about this game so sorry :)

Well, the most successful is Halo 2 i think im not sure but IMO its the most overrated game ever.

I have never played it, but it was a top seller for the SNES for a long time, people loved it. But to say it is the best game ever? Not even close in my mind. Granted, I have played very little of it, and can barely remember it, since I never owned it.

Chrono Trigger == Pure Gold.

One of many bits of software that prove that you don't need X-ty billion pixels onscreen to have a solid game.

Lousy punk kids...

While an excellent game, Chrono Trigger is greatly and widely overrated. It's often given the title "Best Game Ever" or "Best 16bit RPG Ever" while neither title is really deserved. It was a great game for sure, but there are pleanty of games that do some things better than it, and some things worse even in it's own generation. In order to really be the best game it would have to dominate all others in every aspect, it simply doesn't do that.

Examples good sir? I cant think of many 16-bit RPG's better than Chrono Trigger other than the aforementioned Secret of Mana...

Tetris maybe?

Once I got to the gateway bit I found it rather boring and gave up. Same with the sequal CronoCross. Good high production values and great quality but dosent appeal to me.

Found ff6,ff7,ff8,ff9 Boring and unexciting.
Again nice production values and quality but unappealing.

EDIT: I have only Finnished FF9 after a long long play session.
Didnt do anything for me.

For you maybe...the stories in all of those games you mentioned were terrific IMO.

Chrono Trigger actually starts to pick up after the gateway, so I dont know what you mean. Maybe RPG's arent your thing...you should stop wasting money on them :p

In terms of sales the most succussful game ever is still super mario 3 for the SNES, none of the Halos are actually even in the top twenty. And ya I beat chrono trigger for the SNES.....on the SNES. But I came off of it as being the absolute appitamy of an average RPG. I prefered Super mario legend of the seven stars much more and Final fantasy six and Lufia.

Ah, Chrono Trigger was quite a classic. Having a flawless execution of time travel that has never been topped, plus a story and setting which combined fantasy and science fiction without making it feel rather contrived [FFIV] whilst remaining easy to understand and light-hearted, I still occassionally go back to play it. Not the BEST game ever, nor even the best on the SNES, it was still an excellent RPG. Chrono Cross on the other hand was a cash-in to the original's fame. Yeeeech. I'd sell my copy on Ebay if I didn't think it'd only make a few dollars.

Thanks, I think Ill save myself a good 20 dollars by not buying Chrono Cross....dissapointing that Squaresoft couldnt make a good sequal to such an awesome game.

I have played both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. I loved Chrono Trigger. Great graphics for the system, intriguing story, and I can't forget those double and triple techniques.

I'll play Chrono Trigger on my Wii. I'm 98% sure that they will have it on the back catalogue.

Wow, I can't believe anyone would ever be able to think that. Chrono Cross got a perfect ten from GameSpot, a rank only achieved otherwise by Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Soul Caliber, and Ocarina of Time. I think that speaks for itself.
And in response to the time travel thing, Chrono Cross also did this very well, just about equal to that of Chrono Trigger. Not to mention the awesome battle system and even more amazing final boss fight, which was best beaten using a secret combination of spells and types of attacks. Phew, it was a long battle. Chrono Cross just can't be beat, in my opinion, unless its by the story of Final Fantasy VII.
