King
This is a story of my first complete Warlords game, on Prince
Vassals are strange creatures. I'd not known them until the day I ran the empire of Carthage.
The empire began well enough. I shared an island with the Vikings. Since I'm a greedy ruler, I quickly destroyed Ragnar's cities, first cutting off his iron and bronze supplies. By the time I'd populated and expanded to fill my kidney-shaped island, I'd been contacted by the ocean explorers from Spain and the land of the Incans. Soon after came their neighbors on the big continent: Tokugawa, Victoria, Shaka, Washington and that Korean guy. Though they were a bit tense, they were trading left and right, getting a huge tech lead on my little empire.
I say little incorrectly. In terms of pure land mass, I was the king. But I lacked for population. Though I held a monopoly on sugar, all other luxury items were on the mainland. To get to them, I needed to make friends.
Vicky and George jumped at the chance, as did Wang. The four of us stood in opposition to Hyuna and his friends. And they were bullies. Hyuna's thirst for more land, more techs, more of everything, could not be satisfied. Being separated by deep water insulated me from his wrath; even his best war attempts were little more than a couple boatloads of attackers. I did my best to help out my smaller, weaker friends. I taught them advanced technologies and made sure they had excellent strategic resources. When I could spare, I gave them planes, tanks, and other weaponry.
My chances at victory began to slide as Hyuna began claiming the rest of his island as vassals. One after another, they capitulated. In the most bizarre tide change, I had been entrenched in a war on Washington and Vicky's behalf. I provided air support and airlifted everything I could into their cities. Then, they each capitulated and I was now at war with the entire world!
My coast guard was on alert and my aircraft carriers patrolled the seas to provide advance notice of attack. Back at home, industry was in full drive to build spaceship parts. Once I knew I'd be finishing my ship, I gave Hyuna every tech I had in exchange for peace. Knowing that I was able to launch in peace made me feel very, very good.
