After finding so much furs I wanted to trade them, I built a road south and encountered the aztecs... from previous civ3 games I only have bad experience from them. All they seem to think of is war! And if they dont start it at once they use the power of their jaguar warriors to extort the other civs, grow even more powerful and then attack when they have nothing more to demand! In my last civ3 game (huge earth map 8civs) alla other civs declared war against the aztecs :D
This time I really tried to be nice to my neighbours, I established good relations did lots of trades and hoped they would be nice... after awhile they(the Aztecs) started to demand stuff, and when I asked them to leave my territory they declared war! so stupid - I payed the babylonians to help me, and now my Immortals stand outside Tenochtilian waiting to enter :king:
Is it possible to be friends with the Aztecs

That's just a question of power. In my game, they also demand lots of stuff. But they are intelligent enough NOT to declare war if you don't give them anything... they are just too afraid of my mighty Immortals:p

but what Im saying is that there is a difference between how the AI handles computer players depending on their civilization. Ofcourse the Aztecs are not THAT stupid, but sometimes they seem to overestimate their own power.

I have the impression that the ai sometimes looks too much onto the numbers and not onto the quality of units... this way, they may underestimate you first. But having lost a few cities, they adapt rather quickly to the real situation.... and then they stop declaring wars they cannot win

I entered into a thousand year war with the Aztecs. Had to take one of their cities fours times because the blasted thing kept reverting to them in the midst of my march to their capital!

I finally took their capital and it also reverted in a turn or two - right after I had moved in four-fifths of my seige train!

I re-took the capital with my army and they sued for peace. I was really ticked at them and demanded a city - thinking they would refuse and the war would continue - but they accepted!:king:

So, I guess you just have to bully them...

I simply rushed to Tenochtitlan early in the game (when I just had my first immortals), making it impossible for them to state demands or let their cities convert back. :D I only had to recapture Tenochtitlan twice. But that's not a problem: just place two immortals outside the city. When it converts to the Aztec, one destroys the only spearman and the other takes the city.

I just conquered Tenochtitlan, used my first build immortal. Love it.

Whatever it´s the truth about the aztecs, i always destroy them when there close to me. Just in case...

After conquering the Aztec capital I had this army with nothing to do - so I marched on a Babylonian city. Took it and survived the Bab counter attack only to lose the weakened army to Zulu horsemen!:(
In the mean time the Americans retook Chicago and the one time Aztec capital. By the time I reconquered Chicago the old Aztec capital was Aztec once more! I think it reverted (was not captured). Now they have musketmen guarding the place!
Oh well, at least there is a Zulu island that is easy pickings!:king:

I do wish I hadn't waited until 300AD to start the Aztec war!

Funniest backstabbing I have ever seen in any CIV. The Babylonians signed a mutual protection pact with the Aztecs. Then they came to me and wanted a mutual protection pact. I signed right away since at this point the Babylonians are as powerful as I am and it doesn't hurt to have them waste their troops defending me if some body like the Iroquois decided to attack.

The funny part  .... After they signed the mutual protection pact with me and the pathetic Aztecs they attacked the Aztecs!

So, tonight I will be opening up the second front on the Aztec homeland to defend my Babylonian "brothers".
