It's called corporate anorexia. This occurs when myopic management sees employees as an expense rather than an asset. It's like trying to make your car go faster by emptying the gas tank in order to lighten the load.

The wife of a friend of mine is hospitalized in Ontario. I was going to send her a get-well bouquet, but an itty-bitty bouquet there costs $50. Growing up in southern California has spoiled me. In L.A., it's 1/3 - 1/2 of that. Here in the Philippines, it's about $5. I attribute the cost difference to the presence of sunshine.
Today I learned that in the Nevada caucus they don't decide ties using anything as silly as a coin toss like in Iowa. Instead, they shuffle a deck of cards 12 times and have a representative of each candidate draw a card. Whoever draws the highest card wins.

TIL: Ben Carson was in the 2003 movie "Stuck on You". I watched the movie yesterday and I noticed one of the surgeons in that movie looked a lot like Carson. I looked it up and sure enough, that's him in the movie.
