Time to give it up?

When we began this game I had no idea we'd still be playing it in the Civ 5 era. We do not seem to have much action in the forums now and we have no way to prevent SABER from preventing our launch. Their nukes and stealth bombers continue to pound away at The Silo. We're making one shield per turn and have over 40 shields to go. SABER also has the potential to sabotage our production at some point. In short, the game seems out of reach for us. FREE gave up hopes of winning long ago. I have no idea what SABER is doing. Will they ever have enough strength to dominate this world? We will reach the point where we cannot sustain the cost of our land forces. We will probably disband all our coastal cities, reduce our land forces and build tactical nukes. A force of tactical nukes should be able to take out any invasion force. Nukes are also immune to nuclear strikes so SABER cannot nuke our nukes before invading. (Are nukes also immune to bombing runs?) FREE could also use this strategy to prevent a SABER domination.

Shall we see if the other teams would like to call it a draw?

Wow - I finally had time to check back in here, and was hoping to see that we'd won by now!

What a drag!

Donsig - you deserve a medal for continuing to play this long under these conditions.
I have an idea for a draw - I'll suggest it in the UN forum.

:salute:

if we faill to get the teams to agree to a draw in the UN - I had a thought about a potential path to victory...

Shouldn't massive global warming kick in soon? With all the nukes Saber is lighting off, I'm kind of amazed it hasn't happened already. Please don't tell me that this feature has been disabled in C3C multiplayer!

Mass global warming won't hurt us at all - since we're already a bombed out cinder. But it might slow down Saber's ability to build nukes - giving us a break in the bombing to start doing more than 1 spt towards the engine.

I still vote to call this a draw... but might global warming be a path to victory for us?

I did not think SABER would accept a draw but it was a nice try. So the SABERites hint that the end is near. This is to be expected from them. I was a bit surprised to see your post Niklas. Are you suggesting we hang in there because we have a chance to win? We're over forty shields away and SABER is going to continue to pound on The Silo. Can we hang on for more than 40 more turns while we build the engine one shield at a time? What defense can we mount that will hasten our production? Do we abandon all our coastal cities now, place all our jets in The Silo and put them on air superiority duty? Wouldn't SABER just bomb or nuke the jets before we even get to put them on air superiority?

Can we stop a SABER domination win? We can play super turtle by abandoning all our coastal cities and building some tactical nukes. Once SABER lands we nuke their stacks. Of course SABER will be devastating our roads which may make this tough. Anyone care to calculate how many more tiles SABER needs? Is one continent enough for them? There's no point in delaying a domination win unless the delay allows us to finish the spaceship.

Niklas, if you're suggesting we hold on long enough merely so SABER can get an inevitable domination win then I suggest we face facts and surrender now.

The other option is that Saber pulls a diplomatic angle.... I'd be fine voting for them, at this point. At some point, the bully will get somebody's lunch money. :gripe:

Of course, I may feel differently tomorrow

I'd rather concede to SABER than vote for them to get a diplomatic win. They continue to nuke and bomb us. Does anyone think we can win this game?

Niklas, if you're suggesting we hold on long enough merely so SABER can get an inevitable domination win then I suggest we face facts and surrender now.
Yes that's what I'm suggesting. SABER has played a good game, and we shouldn't take that away from them by quitting. Let them get the satisfaction of winning for real.

If we surrender and acknowledge a SABER victory shouldn't that be enough for them? I see what you're saying Niklas but CommandoBob and I are the ones having to take time to play the turns. I began this thread in the hopes the Council was ready to give it up. I figured then we'd contact FREE and if they agreed we could post in the UN that we surrender and SABER wins. CommandoBob is using alot of his time to take screenies for us but is it really worth it if we cannot win? Personally I'm at the point where I'd just as soon open the save and press enter to end the turn. Do you think SABER would get more satisfaction from us admitting defeat or from attacking opponents who are just pressing enter?

Hmm. I realize you're the one bearing the weight of us playing on. Maybe I should do the unspeakable and [censored] and take over?

I think CommandoBob and FREE are bearing more weight than we are. They've basically concluded they cannot win and have been supporting us anyway they can to help us win. They think we have a chance to win. If we do then let's carry on. If we have very, very little or no chance to win then don't we owe it to FREE to let them know? They may well agree that we should all just surrender.

I am willing to continue playing. The most difficult part right now is ensuring there are no SABER transports threatening our coastal cities. Beyond that there isn't much to do since SABER continues to nuke our workers. I am however not going to complain if another Council member wants to play the turns.

New from our allies at FREE - thought I'd post it here, you'll see why.

O Wise Ones of The Council,

Your latest missive has caused great unrest in land of Free. Unrest,
sorrow and gnashing of teeth, as we reflect upon what might have been.

Companions through thick and thin, if indeed it is true that 40 turns
are needed to complete the rocket-sled to the stars, then all is lost.
Saber cannot be denied for that long. And if they sabotage that
production, then 40 turns becomes only a dream.

If there is a chance that 40 turns could become 10 or less we would
stand strong with you and defy the Men of Orange.

Otherwise....Saber has won. Not officially, but practically. They
control the seas and the pace of the game.

Close friends of Free, the world has changed much since we first met.
And as heartbreaking as it is, the shape and posture of the world do
not favor anything Blue.

And we should consider how to end this with honor.

I most humbly suggest that either we both consider resiging from the
game or else consider gifting all of our cities to Saber to give them
a Domination Victory. Of the two choices, speaking only for myself, I
prefer the latter method. Just resigning, at this point in the game,
seems petty. Giving them our cities, while painful, would somewhat
negate Saber's victory, since they needed our help to achieve it.

Free is not advocating quitting. Free is advocating the recognition
of a lost cause.

This is our current military, spread out over two continents:

I wonder if CommanoBob's suggestion will satisfy Saber?
I sympathize with Niklas' position - Saber has earned the win, and under normal circumstances, it would seem childish to quit at this point. However, the unreasonably slow pace of this game (at least in my mind) opens up an honorable path to surrender.

I'd move to accept CommandoBob's suggestion.

...

I'm inclined to accept their gifting idea as well but I think we should first reply and tell them we showed 13 turns to finish the engine and include a copy of the last battle log from SABER. This will give a few more on the Council time to speak up about FREE's proposal.

We should really get a response out to FREE tonight. Here's my propsal:

proposed reply to FREE said:
Dear FREE,

We ended last turn showing the engine completing in 13 turns in The Silo. The population of the city was four with two civil engineers working giving us an output of four shields per turn. We have 590 shields in the bin and need 640. SABER nuked the tile east of The Silo and killed one citizen. (The battle log is in the spoiler.) I am not sure what happens to worked tiles and specialists during nuclear strikes but I doubt we'll make all four of the projected shields. There are no roads leading into The Silo and our attempts to boost production have failed due to SABER's nukes and stealth bombers. On turn 304 we had 589 shields. We had the same on the turn 305 due to riots. Turn 306 (our last turn) we added one shield to get us to the present 590.

SABER knows which city to target and we can do nothing to stop them. In order for us to launch in less than ten turns SABER bombing capacity would have to be significantly reduced. We have another prebuild in The Igloo that could be turned into an ICBM with an infusion of gold but we have no idea if a lone ICBM would make a dent in SABER's air force.

At this point the few Council members who have spoken up are supporting the idea of gifting cities to SABER. I am hoping others will speak up soon.

It's been a long time since I posted, or even looked at the game. To be honest, I'm surprised it's still going!!!

We can't get 3 shields by making the citizen a civ engineer?

I have to say - those of the Council who have continued to play this game to it's bitter end are to be commended!!

That the Council (at one point facing invasion by mounted warriors) is still in existence and was as close as it was to victory is astonishing.

I have no problem with a gift to saber for domination.

FREE seems to want to continue playing (see the FREE embassy thread) so we will carry on.

 Oh wait, couldn't we get three shields by staying at size 1 and turning the only citizen an engineer?
It would not be changed by air attack because we won't lose population! :old:

And SABER has to be careful because a single MGL might win the game for us. :p
So let's put some pressure on them!
