Are there any diplomacy tips, or whatever, so that you can act as a mercenary? I haven't been able to get the option to sell a "Declare War On" deal enabled in the trade screen. Sometimes when I'm ready to attack someone I wouldn't mind getting dough, techs and diplomacy points from their enemy for it as well.

Nope, sorry, the AI will only make demands if they want you to declare war, stop trade, or convert.

I would love for this to be changed.

Damn, that's a shame. Strange that they list the "Declare War On" category on your side of the trade screen then?

Yes, I remember in the older games being offered lots of cash to go into a war.. these days the numpties just think they can threaten you into it.

Most of the time they ask for assistance, instead of making threats. The problem is that it would be an easily abusable mechanism. You declare war, but you don't actually do send soldiers or fight the enemy.

Btw does anyone else find it ridiculous that the AI doesn't seem very grateful if you agree to declare war on their enemy? I keep thinking "I'm sending our sons and daughters to die on foreign soil for a cause that isn't ours, and your reaction is 'Our mutual military struggle brings our people closer together'" ?! EXACTLY THE SAME AS IF WE JUST COINCIDENTALLY HAPPENED TO BE WARRING AGAINST THE SAME NATION? OMGWTF?

Yes, I think the whole diplomacy needs re-done, not re hashed.

OT - My pet hate is being the point leader, builder of every wonder (bar one), every religion bar one, and not being that aggresive. You build the UN, and somewhere along the lines the AI take seat (due to their vassals). You vote never to something like free religion because you like being x, then you get unhappyness due to that.. how about I built it, I'm the most powerful, your coming to the UN in my country, if I say no thats it.. your people should love you for it (reflection of real life, America, Iran, Russia etc)

Civ is not real life though and in Real life the UN is nowhere near as effective or official as it is in the game

Where did I say civ was real life? I made a comparison.

Thats what I am saying, it should not come with such harsh penalties, giving certain circumstances.

If I was third from the bottom, millitarily weak, and vote never to something, I should get unhappyness. Not if I am statistically the largest and most powerfull, as I did not get my civ to that point withiout horsehockyting on others. So it seems rather bizzare that it would be a problem with my populuses conscious by that point...
