Tips for huge maps

Hi all,
I've just got myself a new PC and so am now moving from standard maps to huge maps. I usually play on monarch, but am looking for some general tips as it's a bit daunting.

Should I move the speed up to epic? Are domination victories even possible?

Thanks

All I have ever played are huge maps. While I typically just play with the default number of AIs I have recently been adding 2-3 for some earlier territory wars. I have turned off Vassals, and also have Permanent alliances enabled, but I find domination quite possible at Epic speed. At normal speed units become countered too quickly on a huge map especially. I plan to play a marathon game next time around to see if I like the play of that much.

So, yes play at epic speed and yes, domination is possible. But its good to have a few good friends that you turn on late in the game so you don't go to war with everyone at once :).

Epic or marathon speeds are excellent for huge maps. On faster settings, you won't have the time to have any appreciable interaction with the opposite side of the world.

Domination victories are certainly possible, and are actually very entertaining. Lots of units, massive slugfest. But again, your chances of victory go up the slower your settings.

I love the huge maps and lots of other civs to interact with.

I hate having to manage 20+ cities.

Thanks fellow fanatics, I'll give the epic ago and crank up the civs. Vassals was always too annoying so that'll go too.

Yes, 60+ cities can get to be a bit of a drag, too. But since I play huge/marathon, it happens sometimes. On the peripheral cities, it's a matter of minimal management!

Domination is definitely possible at huge/marathon (I've done it a few times), but no denying that it IS a lot of work.

Yeah. typically when I'm playing on huge and going for Domination victory... I start turning the cities I'm capturing over to the automated Governor. It doesn't do a great job, but it keeps me from having to decide on 10+ productions every turn.

I find that Epic is even a bit quick for Huge maps. Stick with Marathon.

Cheers.

I always play Epic on huge and I find the pace to be fine. But I also disable tech trade...

Be prepared for a long game. Marathon/huge is in my opinion the best combo. The cool thing about huge maps is that you can have lots of AI's while still having a good amount of space (try having 15 or so AI's). Domination is possible, but it can take quite a while. I usually enable permanent alliances and sometimes enable random personalities.

I play huge maps quite a bit but sometimes I find it fun to go to smaller maps as everything slows down on huge maps.
