The brazilian elections' show is on again. And this worldwide unique carnival of candidates (or freaks, or freak-candidates, call them as you like) has one star this year: the TV clown Tiririca, who wants to become a federal deputy. Here're some of his videos all in one:

Some quotes from the video:

I'm here to ask for your vote for federal deputy to help those in need, including my family.

I'm candidate for federal deputy. And what does a federal deputy do? I really don't know, but vote me and I'll tell you. Vote Tiririca, because he won't get us any worse.

When you're going to vote it will appear this face. And this face is me. OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL CANDIDATE!

:rotfl:

What a freak! And best of all: there're more.

How come brazilians allow such a show in their elections?

Vince dois Vince dois is 22 22 I guess - why is he repeating that number?

Because is his number as candidate for federal deputy. All candidates have a 4 digit number and in the elections people vote the number.

PS: BTW, it's vinte e dois.

:lmao:

In other news, it looks like I can understand Portuguese! :D

Welcome to the latin dialect continuum! :hatsoff:

Now you'll discover that you can also understand Italian and Catalan.

I found I could understand bits and pieces of Italian, and French is very familiar to me due to my education in Canada.

Never heard spoken Catalan, so I'm not sure. Likewise with Romansche, Occitan, Galician and all those other latin languages.

Dunno about Romanian.

That's got nothing on Brazil's anti-joking law. TV and radio broadcasters are legally forbidden from making fun of Presidential candidates 90 days before the election.

MOAR FREAK CANDIDATES FOR YOU TO ENJOY!!!

:lol::lol: What a bunch of freaks!

Brazilian elections have had joke-options for a long time. The new anti-joking law is pure censorship an nothing else. The joke-candidates, as you can see, are still there using the sense of humor as part of their campaigns and the serious candidates can use it everytime someone criticise them during the campaign. Nothing positive can come from this law.

That law was deemed unconstitutional by the supreme court. Jokes are free now. :D
Thanks. I see they just changed it August 28th. Time to make fun!

Professional clown “Tiririca” the most voted member of the Brazilian congress

Brazil's incoming Congress will have to make room for a colourful new member: a professional clown who won the most number of votes: over 6% of all ballots in the state of Sao Paulo.

Tiririca, a 45-year-old television humorist whose real name is Francisco Oliveira, scooped up 1.3 million votes in Sunday's polls to represent Sao Paulo, the highest number of votes for any federal deputy across the country.

His TV campaign ads, featuring him dancing around in a tiny hat and multi-coloured outfit with a cheesy smile and the number 2222, were easily the most irreverent spots in the lead-up to the general elections.

“It couldn't get any worse. Vote for me,” was his campaign slogan, which were followed by a number of riffs tapping into public cynicism about politics.

“What does a federal deputy do? I have no idea -- but vote for me and I'll let you know,” went one of his ads.

“Vote for me as federal deputy so I can help the needy -- especially my family,” he said in another.

In yet another, he took a dig at the more traditional politicians in Brazil's Congress, which is frequently plagued by corruption scandals.

“Are you tired of those slimy characters? Vote for Tiririca for federal deputy... If you vote for me, I will be in Brasilia, I will in reality be doing that thing for our lives, for Brazil, for our lives, for our moment, for our something,” he deadpanned.

Born in 1965 in the northern impoverished state of Ceará “Tiririca” is a well known television actor with his humour program “Tom’s Show”. He was sponsored by the small Party of the Republic which is part of the ruling coalition.

First allow me to point out that Tiririca belongs to Lula's coalition.

Second, this is no laughing matter. In Brazil we have something called "electoral coefficient". This means that part of the votes for a candidate are spread among people of his coalition. So unscrupulous parties ask celebrities like Tiririca to run not because they want him in Congress, but because the votes he gets allow them to elect several representatives who did not get enough votes on their own to be elected. So Tiririca's million votes actually elected 3 other representatives, one of them from Lula's Workers' Party, and all accused in corruption scandals. The overwhelming majority of the electorate has never heard of the electoral coefficient, and even if they did they could never understand it. They think of voting for Tiririca as a harmless protest, but by doing that they are actually voting for the worst elements of party politics.

Not so funny now, is it?
