TLKNES: Belle Epoque

To expand, so plans can be made for orders quickly:

From: Chile
To: Britain, New England, the USA
CC: Great Powers of Europe & Free Nations of the World

This accord aims to resolve the issue once and for all. It has been our position, consistently and continuously, that the lands of Patagonia are Chilean - and have been for centuries. The uncultured of Patagonia are the charges of the Chilean nation, their lands that of the state stretching back to the times of Spanish Empire.

Our terms are simple:

Chile will not renounce its legal and historical claims to Patagonia. The last year has seen Britain attempt to bully their way into our lands and other parties (including the United States and New England) lay their own claims as well. London was unsurpassed in its attempt to coerce our proud people, and after months of deliberation we believe it better to die fighting imperialism than live under its terror.

That said, we are not looking to fight a war and will provide compensation to the powers of New England, Britain, and the USA if they recognize the Patagonia as Chilean.

The USA will stand by its earlier statement. Patagonia is Chilean. Chile is to govern as it sees fit and we consider any offer of compensation gentlemanly and generous on the part of the Chilean government. We hope this compensation will be enough to convince right-thinking and peace-loving people in Britain and New England to abandon their rash claims.

Citing Chile's actions in arming the Mapuche natives against legitimate British colonists,

Citing Chile's continued refusal to come to a fair and generous deal even after Britain offered almost the entirety of Patagonia,

Cognizant of Chile's recent declaration of its claimed ownership of all of Patagonia,

The United Kingdom regretfully declares war on the Republic of Chile.

OOC: orders will be sent within the next twelve hours, sorry for the delay. Negotiations over Chile took pretty much forever.

It is the USA's sincere hope that New England will consider the compensation provided by Chile and come to a peaceful conclusion vis-a-vis Patagonia.

To Great Britain,
From the USA,

It is also unfortunate, from the point of view of the USA that Britain would focus its efforts on imperialism in the Americas while it is well known that its friend and ally, the Ottoman empire, is under continuing direct assault and will soon come under the combined hostile intent of France, Austria, and Russia. One would think that Great Britain would stand by its friends instead of attempting to illegitimately gain some small parcel of land- one for which it is being offered compensation which it might spend to help defend its friend and ally.

The USA can only wonder what Great Britain's other allies will think when they witness the direction of Great Britain's priorities. Will they too wonder if they will be abandoned in their time of need if a pretty bit of candy presents itself for the British to swallow? What of Britain's dominions?

Great Britain, we again beg of you to consider the Chilean compensation, to withdraw your declaration of war, to acquiesce to the legal rights laid down by historical precedent, and to step away from Chile. Your friends in the Ottoman empire need you far more than Britain needs a distant and poor frontier-land and a war in Chile.

EDIT: If the USA is wrong about the intentions of France, Austria, and Russia vis-a-vis the middle-east, we will be more than willing to provide a public apology to those states. Our point was not to antagonize these states, merely to illustrate the need for British attention and resources elsewhere.

His Imperial Majesty's government has been very clear on the matter of American involvement in South American affairs, particularly the ongoing dispute between Bolivia and Peru and insinuation of American interests in Patagonia, a sphere that European powers have recognized as British for some seventy years. We have been very clear about the consequences which would result from such actions -- particularly in light of the American government's ridiculous and libelous accusations against the French Imperial State -- and now have little choice but to consider a formal cessation in relations between His Imperial Majesty's government and the warmongering, slave-driving upstarts in the District of Columbia, which will (for the sake of both our nations' merchants) be limited to the withdrawal of His Imperial Majesty's embassy.

However, the United States is certainly welcome to embargo the French Empire if it truly believes France is about to start a war against the Ottoman Sultan. This, of course, would imply that the American government has the means and competence necessary to make its influence felt across the Atlantic Ocean, all the way to the Mesopotamian cradle of civilization. We have no such confidence. Pull your heads out of your pants.

Well, due to the lack of orders, and this recent outbreak of war, I'll give everyone until tomorrow night to get their orders (unless you PM me with a good reason otherwise), but then the hard deadline is going to have to come down.

I'm going on #nes for a little bit if anyone wants to talk to me. PM relevant NPC nations and I will be as prompt responding as possible.

To France,
From The USA,

As for the first issue. Let us be clear since perhaps we haven't been: We have withdrawn our claims to Patagonia after careful consideration of the matter by legal experts. We feel this is quite the opposite of insinuating ourselves in Patagonia. Secondly, in light of the declaration of war by Great Britain upon Chile, we are doing everything we can to avoid war. We are sure that the French will agree that a war between rational, modern states benefits no one. It would perhaps behoove Great Britain to at least consider the Chilean offer of compensation.

As for the second issue, the goings on in Europe and Asia. The USA has no territories or colonies in Europe or the middle-east nor do we have any illusions regarding our ability to affect the decisions made in Paris, Moscow and Vienna regarding the Ottomans or their neighbors. We will look upon the actions of your nations from afar, and in the meantime concern ourselves with peace and stability in the Americas.

The Russian Empire has not been conspiring with Austria, France, nor any other powers to destabilize or partition the Ottoman Empire as claimed by the United States. The Russian Empire would not seek to de-stabilize the already unstable Balkans in such a way, and we do not know where the United States is gaining this information.

The Russian Empire is committed to progress, and peace in both The Middle East, and in The Balkans.

Absolutely, welcome. If you'd like, you can still send orders for this turn, or you can just wait until next turn.

Considering the recent happenings between the US and Great Britain, I recommend sending Grandkhan a PM (or vice-versa). Check out the past two updates to get an idea of what's going on, and PM me if you have any questions.

Welcome aboard TaylorFlame :)

I'll be sending you a PM soonish about Canada and Britain (and the rest of the Americas by proxy).

Brilliant, thank you. I'll start figuring out what I'm going to do once I understand my situation, I'll send in orders this turn.

Despite Transvaal not being on the map, you're still welcome to have it. It was an oversight on behalf of the European powers when making the map.

Hey,

EDIT: Early post was not really needed in thread so here is a replacement.

Gun Crew as Good as Any on the Waves.

Seaman Cha Young Woo stood alone at his watch. The setting sun glinted of the barrel of the QF 6 inch Mk III of open gun mount number 3 aboard the new Korean Empire battleship, KIS Hwanin. Lord of Heaven.
The ship had once been the USS Cuba and Woo had trained a hard year under his American gun boss. Days of nothing but loading and unloading the gun. Learning all the "Unique Contrisats of the Girl". That old man taught Woo and the gun crew to range a target by eye and have his gun fire 7 rounds per minute. Best on the ship. "Gun Crew as Good as Any on the Waves." It would be sad that he would never see that old man again. This was the start of the Korean takeover of the ship. Soon the higher up American observes would be gone as well.

"For you my honorable gun boss." Said Woo as he pulled a small bottle of Kentucky whiskey from his pocket and toasted the old man. "I will alway be in your debt for being there to help my beautiful Korean Imperial Navy."
He drank deep the hard brew and stepped toward the removeable rail looking sternwards. There was the KIS Hwanung. Divine Regent. Once the battleship USS Tennessee and sister ship to the USS Cuba.

We are withholding ourselves from this war for now. While we are unhappy with Chile's rejection of a fair and reasonable treaty, we also don't see this a war worth fighting as it is. We continue to uphold our defensive alliance with Great Britain. The Commonwealth will also not accede to Chilean threats over our status in Patagonia - we will continue our trade and expansion as previously planned, and will not shirk away from defending our citizens should we need to.

Due to the heightened tensions and the state of war, an increased New English naval presence will be sent to the area. Both parties should insure that no harm befalls our sailors, traders or settlers.

We echo Bolivia's sentiments, and wish to state that for as long as the war between our allies and Great Britain persists, Colombian ports are closed to British warships.

I am starting the update. If you don't have orders in, get them in. If I get to parts of the update that pertain to you, I'm going to try to avoid setting anything in stone, but will also not hesitate to continue on if you are holding up the update process. Revisions are no longer accepted.

Nah, the only reason traansval and oranje aren't on the map is that LoE thinks the map looks better without them. They still exist, unless TLK parsed the map differently.
