TNESI: The Glorious Mysteries

Shortguy, basically construction has begun, though the ancient city was largely ruined in the Flemish War.

I'll answer your PM in more detail tomorrow.

Perfectionist, they're nobles, they're arrogant, and they don't want to be vassalized.

Despite their military machine being second to none in Europe (except maybe Spain,) Byzantium had committed to too many fronts…and it was vulnerable.
I only just noticed this, and I strongly protest this snub of the Norse Empire. The Norse have utterly defeated THEIR great enemy in two turns, while at the same time humbling the greatest German power and securing a favourable resolution to the French conflict. Meanwhile, Spain will need three turns to deal with Andalusia, despite focusing its entire war machine on them, and Byzantium couldn't crush Egypt, despite the fact that Egypt was fighting all its neighbors at once, and is in danger of losing to Austria.

OOC: Perfectionist, "military machine", i.e. general military efficiency, and actual SUCCESS in a war are different things. Many pretty poor armies won far greater victories than their more efficient counterparts due to luck, good leadership, economic factors and so forth. The Norse have definitely been far more succesful than the Byzantines or the Spanish, even though the Byzantine and Spanish armies are better as such. Consider that to be at least partially due to your own military brilliance if it comforts you. ;)

Incidentally, Thlayli, still want to me to join? Then please fix the NPC stats. You've got some Tver left over there. :p

You declared war on us at Bavaria's urging. Bavaria has been defeated, and your decision was a profound mistake. We are entitled to seek your destruction. However, you are a young nation, and we feel that one mistake, no matter how terrible, should not be your end. Rather than dismantle your kingdom, we would nurture it. We hope than you will be able to throw away your youthful indiscretions and become a valued ally of the Norse Empire. To ensure the survival of your realm, we propose the following peace terms:

Poland cedes to the Norse Empire the area between the Oder and the Elbe. This area is not populated by Poles, and if you held it, you would fall to the same ethnic divisions that destroyed the Prague Confederacy. The Empire is far better suited to hold the territory.

Poland agrees to become a vassal state of the Norse Empire. There are many enemies of your kingdom, the Mongols first among them. After they have dealt with Galicia, they will inevitably come for you. If you become the Empire's vassal, you will be placed under our protection.

Poland reduces its tariffs on Norse goods.

I never went through with the war on then norse . I declared war on sweden. Which I don't see in the update. If you think I am going to agree to that when I did nothing you are so wrong.

Thlayli I am pissed off that my orders were nto followed. And if I have to do any of this because of it I am out of this nes.

WHY WASN'T I IN THE DAMN UPDATE! Now Poland will never shine. Thanks alot Thlayli, and I had really liked this nes.

I sent like 20 thousands into sweden this turn. I would have coastline right now.

Better late than never. Hectic days.

CC: Allies and interested nations.
We understand that you feel betrayed by us. We will not go into any long details to explain our reasons, but simply let you know that after your talk about partitioning Lothringen we didn't trust you. The first duty of any king is to protect his people. By taking the action I did I not only managed to bring the war to a satisfactory conclusion and save the lives of thousands of my subjects, I also managed to protect them from any future conflict which could easily arise from a border with strong and aggressive Bavaria.

OOC: Nothing personal in it. Normally I wouldn't do such a thing, but I didn't trust your character and saw an opportunity for my two closest rivals/enemies to weaken each other. Divide and conquer ;) I would actually have given you some land by the Rhine, but not join in an aggressive move.

My Lords,
We are appaled at this conflict and bloodshed. This is unbecoming of such great and civilized nations. We urge a conference be held for the purpose of agreeing upon a peace. We would be pleased to host such a conference should it be required.

To: Spain (Leon? Spanish Empire? Whatever your name ;) )
From: Aquitaine

We would like to extend our strongest affection and appreciation for your aid during our recent conflict.
At the same time we would like to congratulate you on your continued success against the Muslim horde. We do hope that you will be able to complete the conquest and take the last enclave without too much damage to the beautiful city you are besieging.

OOC: Can anyone explain to me just what the heck is happening in Northern Africa?

Is this IC or OOC? Assuming it's IC:

From: Norse Empire
To: Poland

If you did not intend to follow through on your declaration, you should not have vilely attacked us. Now your situation is untenable. Your ally has made peace with us and declared war on you and the Golden Horde will soon be at your borders. Your only chance for survival is to regain the friendship of the Norse Empire. To do that, you must agree to that peace.

If it's OOC: The update says you attacked me, and Bavaria thinks you attacked me. Stop trying to weasel out of it and give a response.

From: Norse Empire
To: Hungary, Papal States and Byzantium

We support Aquitaine's call for a conference.

OOC: Or a 12th century German emperor, depending on how you count. But that is in our timeline. Things are apparently different in this timeline. At the top of the spotlight for the second update, there is a mention of Lothair II as king of Greater Lothringen, which is a recent creation. I based my assumption on that.

I was working under the assumption that, as the "successor" (very loosely speaking) of Carolingian Lotharingia, we'd consider Lothair grandson of Charlemagne and his son Lothair as I and II.

Either way works for me, though.

And thanks for the response, Thlayli. I obviously have my work cut out for me then...

I understand you said you wanted to unite France which I thought you meant Lothringen. I would have backed down but you sort of led me that way by saying that you planned to reunite France...

Next time please be clear. When you say unite France I assume you meant you were going to conquer it but your betrayal even with that excuse was uncalled for and I hope the Catholic League ejects you.

Death is only the Beginning

“There is nothing more chilling, then the lament of a child.” –Ancient Chinese Maxim

As the life was cut out of him, his spirit rose from his body. He saw distinctly the resistance his subordinates put up to the barbarians armed with nothing more then swords and marveled and the irony of life. When the slaughter ended, he felt his body, his soul, or whatever it was rise higher beyond the tent where he had died. He kept on rising until he could see the whole battle, not at all shrouded by the darkness that he had seen when he was still alive.

The whole battlefield was clear to him, and he wished he had been able to see like he did now. It was amazing still, how the darkness that permeated the world had inspired the barbarians of the Southern Feiliben isles to come together in one final battle. Perhaps the darkness had appeared to them as the ending of the world. And since the world was ending, what more did they have to lose? So they had challenged the Min army to combat and the battle lines, as best as they could be, were drawn up and battle began in earnest.

As the battle winded down as his forces, despite his own death, crushed and routed the enemy. He saw the strewn bodies of both Min soldiers as well as barbarians strewn throughout the battlefield, unified through death. He saw these dead soldiers, Chinese and barbarian alike buried into the good earth. He saw the effect the discovery of his own body and death along with his subordinates had upon his field commanders. He knew that his body would be sent back to China to be buried as the fastest courier ship available sailed towards Suzhou to announce the news.

The battle was over, with Min victory and he could feel a stone being lifted from his heart and he became lighter and lighter drifting towards Heaven. His eyes closed, and he drifted into the land of dreams… And when he woke up, he was in the strangest of all places, Tibet. The Mountain Kingdom of the Dalai Lama. The Yuan Emperors could say all they want, but in the end, Tibet was the Dalai Lama’s, and not the domain of the Yuan. Religion after all, was such a powerful thing to the Tibetans, a strange thing in comparison.

With a blink, he came to be in a large room, a well ornate yet contradictorily enough, astute one. One man alone, dressed in the garb of a Buddhist monk he had seen frequently in his travels with a few differences, sat in the middle of the room sitting in the lotus position. The man rose and turned to face him, giving not the least, but the greatest shock in his life.

“Admiral, you are early. I was not expecting you until the day after tomorrow. Have you finished with all your mortal doings already? My apologies, where are my manners? I am the Dalai Lama of Tibet as you may have known.”

“Why am I here? I am hardly a Buddhist, and if I were I would hardly believe in Tibetan Buddhism, and with all due respect, you are a puppet of the Yuan Emperor, the mortal foe of the Chinese Peoples.”

“I fear Admiral, for it is not a conscious decision you make, it is beyond your power. You have little knowledge of religion and the closest ideal of what happens after death is your knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism. With all due respect, Confucianism and Traditional Chinese Ancestor Worship have little information involving death and what happens after. Ah, the other man I was expecting has arrived.”

“Great Emperor, welcome to the Gates of the Bardo.”

<An interesting rant>

You are a newly formed, aristocratic, semi-feudal confederacy, and your army was slow to mobilize. Perhaps if you created some type of central authority, your actions would have slightly more effect.

OOC: Can anyone explain to me just what the heck is happening in Northern Africa?

The Andalusians have some stalwart territory that remains stubbornly loyal, Spain/Leon has secured the coastal cities, the Hafsids have attacked and captured Algiers and the surrounding cities, and the Zayanids (who joined up with the Berber rebels last turn after Andalusia annexed them) have come back and retaken much of their old territory.

All four groups are struggling for control.

Well, I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon for Washington, and I probably won't be able to get to a computer while I'm there. I considered writing out all the stats by hand, but I'd have to print out the update, stats, and all the orders, which would take lots of paper, and wouldn't be worth the effort.

So, I will do the stats when I return, on Monday, and I'll set a more concrete deadline after I get back.
