What do others think of making one of my sten gun units a regular British infantryman? Most regular british soldiers of WW II carried a rifle. I generally reserve WW II machine guns for special forces type units. If I made a regular infantryman with a sten gun would such a unit be useful or not?

On the plus side it would only take maybe a day to complete the unit. On the minus side the time could be used for more useful units if such a unit would not be very useful.

Therefore I've included a poll with this post to determine if it is worth my while to do a regular British infantryman, sten gunner. Remember if I do this unit that could mean less time I could spend on other units so don't necessarily think that you would be getting "more bang for the buck" if I do this unit.

I've posted a pic of the unit below to give some idea of what the unit would look like. Feel free to also make suggestions as to what the unit should ideally look like if you like the idea of a regular infantryman sten gunner.

Thanks. :)

I can't speak for others but I have a use for the above unit in a rework I am trying to get done.

It might work well for a "generic" type marine for Civ's that do not have one. The old "tommy" helmet was used by allot of different armies.

I voted no, becuz I think the regular infantry guy uses a rifle instead of machine gun =)
I rather see different kind of units like chinese, russian or indian ones :)

I voted yes although I agree with your point that most WWII British infantrymen carried a rifle.
More generally, I think it would be useful to have different units derived from the same basic infantry soldier. This will add variety while preseriving graphic accuracy and uniformity and could open more gameplay options in mods and scenarios.
I'm especially thinking about soldiers using heavy machine guns or mortars or even basic infantyman with one or two extra "build" animations to be used as combat engineers. I'm not specifically suggesting to do this for British Tommies. Take it as a more general suggestion for "regular" units to be employed in scenarios played at "tactical" level. This would allow decent gfx for, say, Rifle platoon/company, heavy weapons or mortar platoon/company, engineer platoon/company...
