Maybe a couple of years down the line I'll start up my own webcomic. A free server like Geocities would be okay for a while, but then old strips would start taking up space.

So what are some points I need to consider before doing this?

Maybe you could get several accounts and just reference to files in these accounts, or if your ISP can provide you with space. Don't know how they look upon that though?

The referencing of pics will get your account(s) terminated in a lot of cases so I wouldn't do that unless you ae willing to upload your stuff over and over again. :)

What you might want to do is to start out small at geocities and when you start to out grow that go to a place like www.bluedomino.com and get your own site ( like www.civcubecomics.com ). There are others out there this is just one I know of that I hear is decent (meaning they aren't down all the time and they do regular backups so you should never need to reupload all your files totheir server because it crashed).

Bluedomino prices:
» Basic Web Hosting Package
» 50 MB Website Space
» 25 Email Accounts
» No Setup Fees
9.95 per month USD

Hey, not too shabby. Thanks munzy. :D

I suppose one could also get their own server? I know TeleFragged hosts this site, but doesn't TF have a server as well?

If you have broadband, a router and an old computer, maybe you could set up a secure configuration and use that computer as a server. I think you can get a domain name from CJB linking directly to an IP address to your computer. I've never tried it myself, but I think it'd be possible.
