I'm getting tired of the war I'm in, though I kind of started it. As the Americans I have a tech lead overall in the game, and I want to keep it. My civ was doing well. I founded christianity and spread it to all in my continent (China, the Native Americans, Babylonians and the Mongols.

But the stinking mongols attacked me early in the game. The almost had me, since they had several large stacks. I sensed they were the ones that would attack sooner or later and had my border cities defenses bolstered but I could see it would be touch and go. I managed to hold off their stacks at great cost until I could sue for peace. Kublia Khan didn't wait much longer than the turn limit to DoW on me again, though. Again I held him off, but I was getting sick of this. None of the others would join me to help. So I began to build my forces up when I got guilds to punish him once peace was declared again.

I took several of his cities and we're still fighting, though to be honest I'm kicking his butt. My plan was to force him to capitulate. If I don't and just sue for peace he'll only DoW on me again in the future once he reaches some form of tech parity. Or he'll vassalize to someone else and they'll most likely attack me later.

But again, I'm tired of this war. I could sue for peace and build up my forces to repel attacks. (Especially since I know either Rome or the French will try to invade from the sea sooner or later. They've been rattling sabers) Or continue. I don't have the force to utterly destroy Kublia unless I just decide to fight for the rest of the game. I might be able to vassalize him though if I take a few more cities, but my forces are getting thin. I was wondering what the rest of you might think. Would it be better to do that or to sue for peace and see what happens?

Get an ally into the war, then sue for peace. Build up, and let your ally fight it for a while. Then wait for a request to jump back into battle, or just invade.

None of the others will ally with me against the mongols. Its redded out. I get the response of "They're our friends" or "we have nothing to gain". I've taken about 5 cities and razed three (because I didn't think I could hold them). Khan just won't capitulate, and soon it'll be a moot point. I'll have to sue for peace since war weariness is killing my economy. This war has been going on for centuries. He had a lot of units.

It happens. Honestly, I end wars mostly for two reasons, 1) I run out of a large enough army to be effective on the offensive or...

2) my opponent is not a threat.

Hopefully, 2 comes before 1 in most circumstances.

Ask yourself a few other questions

Will he attack you again? Did you diminish him enough so that he won't think about attacking you, but maybe someone else?

Also, you mentioned others doing some saber rattling, do you really want them to attack you while your fighting a war, or while your gearing up again?

if you sue for peace, the first thing I would do is get an ally that will declare war on anyone you want.

:king: Moot point now....when I threatened the mongol capitol, Kublia capitulated. I came within one or two turns of taking the capitol, too. My invasion force ran out of moves when he was down to one wounded cannon in the city. (then the game crashed, but I can do it again from the auto save).

Now to take his lunch money to return the aggravation he gave me! Yeah, thats right Kublia Khan, when I say lick my *** you say how many times beeyutch.

Nice. Capitulation is a wonderful thing.
