Finally got to play civ4 again today! I generated a random Pangaea map with a random civ. I got toku

    Settings:
    Immortal Difficulty
    Standard Map Size
    Normal Speed
    Pangaea
    No Huts
    No Events
    (Bug Mod)

I have played until 1AD, I am interested how others will play this map.

    Played 50 turns.

    Spoiler :
Walked right into a worker at the very start. It would have been impolite to look a gift worker in the mouth.

Then Genghis wouldn't accept peace, and it turned out that we had copper!

    And a bit more:

    Spoiler :
Genghis checked out in 1560BC. Sadly, he bequethed me nothing of any value, apart from a stone quarry. Since the terrain really had nothing else going for it I pursued the 'mids, but my prospects took a dive in 1400 when HC completed said wonder (I had invested some 350 hammers)

Situation is quite depressing, with no economy and Toku's general incompetence. Not really feeling inspired to grind on from here. :dunno:

    ^
    Spoiler :

We did the same in eliminating GK early on. But don't give up just yet as the AIs are slow in teching (at least in my game). :dunno: the only thing we are different at are the city placements and got lucky with mids.

Will post some screenshot and save soon but I want to see how other players are faring.

Mids should be huge here. It's actually a very nice position if you can get them. Otherwise, it's not great. Not lost by any means, but a Toku game from such a situation looks more like a chore than a good time as there's little research potential to speak of. :cowboy:

    Played a few turns
    Spoiler :
Multiple war declarations and multiple worker steals. Opened Agr > Pot > Min > BW > masonry so far. Just gonna expand normally or to 4 cities and try and Oracle Construction or something else nice. Will post a more proper update later.
    Edit: @ Panda
    Spoiler :
I also took out GK however, not until I hit Construction (Oracle in 1200s). So I'm sitting at 6 cities just past 1000 BC (expanded to 4 peacefully, razed 1). I agree with you that AIs are teching slow. Actually, they seem to be doing everything slow. Wang spammed missionaries (Buddhism, thanks!) and Giggles founded Hinu. GW went very late in my game (like 1500s) so I went greedy and self teched Math myself and grabbed Oracle late. Guessing all the AIs are in Miss spam and or bad land. Already got an Academy in my soon to be new Capital (already moving it). Probably just gonna use trade/religion/and a "few temples" for happiness, chop out the Mids, and stay in PS and continue on with Cata/Anything until I run into LBs. So my new Capital will will be working all cottages while everything else is whipping/chopping. Looks like it's going to be a pretty quick game.

22 views and only 2 commented? Wow, must be several :ninja: around here ;)

    Anyway here is what happened:

    Spoiler :

Moved my warrior 1 SE. Settled at 1E of the starting position.

Tech path is Agriculture > Pottery > Mining > BW

At turn 4, met GK from the east direction. Shocked to realize that he is very near. Waited for his worker to be open. Declared war at 3720BC (turn 7) and stolen his worker in the process. Because my initial warrior is parked outside of his city. I do not have the chance to explore the map. The good thing was I met most of the AIs (Wang, Alex, Gilgamesh, Shaka)

In the meantime, I started working on the corn and building cottages. GK does not want peace. Built a 2nd warrior to park in the forest hills to stall him. Also gambled for a settler to build it near his borders. Signed a truce at 2920 BC (turn 27). Found a source of copper near the capital!

Because of the presence Alex and Shaka, I am not feeling secure with axes alone so I also teched Hunting > Archery. For my city improvements, I am sharing cottage improvements to speed up my research while GK on the other hand, expanded at the southwestern side of his capital (see screenshot for details).

With Archery, I started to build 2 archers to choke GK and redeclared war in 2080BC (turn 48). I got greedy and stole a worker in the first turn not realizing there were many archers ready to counterattack next turn; thus, losing a warrior in the process. No worries, I got some axes and archers ready to claim his expansion. I also suffered a major setback when my second city, Osaka revolted because of cultural pressure from GK's capital .

At this point in time, I am in a dangerous situation because GKs archers were scattered around his expansion. One of it was near my capital. One wrong move will spell my defeat. With some pressure from my two archers outside Karakorum, he decided to pull out some of his forces to defend his capital and attack it unsuccessfully. This time I am really whipping till my hands bleed! Finally, Beshbalik is liberated. I have also stolen two of his workers! :D

Now, military wise I am superior because GK does not have copper. Even his horses were not pastured nor connected. So I tried to rebuild another army to eliminate GK once and for all to gain some gold and territory. During my assault on his capital, both of us got a great general! Too bad he did not settle his so after capturing his capital, all I got from his city is nothing... no buildings at all!

In terms of tech I researched Animal Husbandry > Mysticism > Masonry. I paused for a while to decide whether to go for Oracle or not. But religion screen told us that Judaism was founded ages ago (2640 BC). So I overflowed some hammers and timed some chops for the pyramids in the same turn the stone from Karakorum is connected. Maybe I am pushing my luck here but I managed to finish it by 575 BC. For my first GG, I went for a silly idea not to make a super medic but to settle it merely for the sake of 3 :science: from rep specialist. (Ok ok I am desperate now because I am going broke from 4 cities )

Went for aesthetics, traded for alphabet. 1st GS is now online and built an academy. Traded lesser techs and went literature > math. With no threat nearby, land developing was the focus. Although the "red fist" from alex is worry some. Bah, I don't see him in the map when exploring the map but I met HC. Fingers crossed if Alex suddenly sends his stack near my borders. Alex declares war at Wang (1040BC). Ah, that's why. I am guessing that he must be at the eastern side of the map. Completed the Great Library with no challenge from any AI (275BC).

What I like about this map is that now it gets easier after eliminating GK and built the pyramids. The capital spot is nice IMO. Good cottage spots, lots of forest to chop, access to stone and marble and also uncontested land to settle in the west (although lots of dessert far west) and north west part (unless you are slow to expand). The late meeting with HC is actually a bliss because he did not settle near me from the start, which might made the game more difficult otherwise.

I have decided not to go for medieval war but will go for liberalism > cuirs/musket/treb/samurais instead. So I think I am in a strong position to win the game.

@ Panda: You've definately overwhipped your Capital. A normal Buro-Captial should be a minimum of size 6-10 at 25 AD.
