Tokugawa Civil Service Challenge

Would bulbing maths have been quicker?

I'm looking into that now. Its the same turn currently but with too much gold left in the bank. The issue if that you have to kill the slider for too many turns waiting for the GS. Any research done there just goes into Math and gets wasted.

Trying to find a solution.

Spoiler :

Close to T85 with lots of gold left in the bank. I think it's likely possible to get T85. Bottleneck is getting the GS to bulb Math.

Yes bad micro on my last run. Now I can do T86 CS too (T67 academy.)
The Math bulb comes too late (half research math only)
One could trade half math for bronze working, which would give slightly earlier library / monasteries in Osaka...
Not gona try it though :hammer2:

@Izuul one way to use gold would be a 3rd city. Is it senseless to try to found clam-city?

Is the Buddhism spread just dumb luck? I got it immediately (very next turn) the first time, and then i loaded back off that save to try the Math bulb instead of the Academy. Now i restarted completely to try a slightly different approach and i can't get Buddhism in Kyoto. I don't think it makes a massive difference, but getting the extra 10% beakers earlier does help a little. It could potentially be the difference in shaving off one turn.

T94, tried working the silver mine instead of rice just to see if it was slower, and I guess it is. I went: Mining -> Pottery -> Writing -> Mysticism -> Meditation -> Agriculture (2000 BC, turn 50!) -> Priesthood -> CS. Got GS on T90 unfortunately.

7 beakers short when i tried it!. Probably possible. Has the advantage of not relying on getting Buddhism in the capitol since you build settler after library instead of monastery.

I did go for library & 2 scientists quickly.
Full math bulb was possible without banking too much gold while on CoL research.

The cottages on rice & green river at Kyoto were used after the bulb, exchange for rice farm + scientist for same food & beakers, but a little more after 10t cos of cottage growth.

Now that I come to report a T86, I can see that Fippy wooped us all

@Fippy what turn did you get the GS?

I got T87 using the soundjata approach (settle on plains hill, get GS in capital, etc.), pretty impressed that people are able to micro it lower than that. I got T97 by chopping out library for GS in Osaka. Chopping is too slow I think.

I was set on skipping agriculture because a couple food wouldn't pay off the beaker cost in the timeframe. But that's half the point, the hurdle creates the window for a math bulb.

Sgotm was great..but at least we got Civ6&7 as replacement

Something tells me the district micro equivalent of this wouldn't be as interesting. That's why civ IV is great. If you want to just beeline to CS you could do so passably pretty quickly. But if you want to do it as fast as possible, there's a million divergent routes to consider. But then "micro" became a dirty word...... in a strategy game of all places

The challenge with skipping Ag is still getting the capitol to produce a settler quickly enough and get large enough to build a library and work two scientists by around T50.

It's interesting how close different tech paths are.

With chopping I get T89 or so -- it loses lots of forests, but I get a granary in the capital.

I kept getting T87 doing Agriculture -> Pottery -> Mining.

Then I got T86 doing Agriculture -> Mining -> Pottery.

Then I got T85 by getting lucky with religion spread and bulbing math -- I had to delay research about half a turn but the bulb was slightly faster than academy if the timing was good.

Overall, the two cities that @soundjata posted was what I used. How Fippy got T84, I don't know...
