Tokugawa is a newb!

Tokugawa declares war on me because of my cultural pressure and the fact that I had few defenders in one of my border cities.

Thankfully Peter[head of the AP] instantly pushes for an end to the war. I vote yes and smile because Tokugawa's troops likely won't reach my city in time[I know it will pass since I have pretty close to half the votes and Peter has 1/3 of the votes].

My question is: Why in the world did Tokugawa vote yes? He could have defied and taken himself a nice plump city. Ah well.... Maybe he was just warning me to stop culture flipping his cites :D. The sad part is I have THREE[and am going on four] flood plain cities cottaged up on this map and I still am producing more culture per turn at 0% slider than all my commerce can produce in research with all the building multipliers.


Anyways topic is; any other people have silly war stories of the AI doing silly things like this?

I don't see your point, it makes no difference what he votes, he loses anyway. So rather than being defiant he votes yes and probably keeps better relations with Peter.

I'm pretty sure the AI tactical voting is not that intelligent
 
I had exactly the same thing with Gengis. He declared war and on the very same turn the 'stop the war against LegionSteve' vote came up. I could have beaten his stack, but I had better things to do, so I voted yes. So did everyone else, including Gengis - most pointless war ever. Ferenginar makes a good point about the AI being concerned about it's relations with the other AP members though.
 
Every time I've seen an AI vote in a "stop fighting against" resolution, they have done the opposite of what I would have done in that situation. For example, Ramasses had just been attacked by Genghis but had not lost any cities yet. Genghis was massively more powerful than him, so I started a resolution to stop the war against Ramasses because I was on good terms with him. It would have passed if Ramasses hadn't defied the resolution, thus dooming himself to annihilation.
 
I think the idea is the AI sees "stop fighting against X" as a good thing for X

I've had that proposal come up where it was "stop fighting against ..the nasty civ who would destroy me" and my Vassals Defied it.. because they didn't want to do any favors for that civ.

It may also have to do with how the AI views war success... which probably needs to improve. (to include current power ratings a bit more)
 
No, the OP is right, the mechanism is messed up. I see the same thing every time. Civ A declares war on Civ B. Civ C brings the AP to vote to stop the war 2 turns later. Civ A votes Yes. Sometimes Civ B even votes No. You would think Civ A would vote either No or Defy...

Edit: Somebody should worldbuilder test this. I would, but im at work. Propose the resolution to "Stop the war against Civ A" and I bet civ A votes yes and civ b votes no. Load the save before the AP resolution, then If you propose "Stop the war against Civ B" I bet civ A votes No and civ B votes Yes regardless of who started the war and when. Just an observation that I speculated on but cant confirm because I didn't load a savegame...
