Hi, I'm playing on the standard settings, but missing the first UHV by a turn or two each time. Are the UHVs even possible? Even focusing on food tiles, it seems impossible to meet the 10 pop required, AND get that 300 culture.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

It's very very tight, but yes, I managed it. You can suffer one bad event but not two; I got 'rats ate all food in granary' and made it, but had to reload an earlier save when I also got the 'riots' event. The priority is getting your food resources online ASAP, so build a worker first while using your starting worker on the corn & spices, and research alloys so you can chop forest and improve all the other resources. Once you have all your major food/production tiles up & running, assign an artist specialist, which should take care of your culture needs.

(One other thing that helped: sending a unit up to the Great Lakes to grab the tribal village, though it does make it tough to defend your capital and worker while the third unit is AWOL).

Hickman's video guide (link) for the Toltecs was pretty helpful, though my recommendation is to fast-track the conquest of Danibaan: research Contract ASAP and build worker-granary-(culture bldg)-then 2-3 atatls. With Danibaan, you can workboat the fish for health, and access the Mayan core for conquest & worker capture to help with the second and third UHVs. I just finished a Toltec game with a victory in turn 225 (originally a t230 victory, but I reloaded a slightly earlier save when I realized I could use the culture slider for the last culture goal).

I had watched it, but he's playing an older version of the game, and I think on regular speed. I play all my games on the standard "Epic" timeframe. What game speed did you complete your game on?

Whatever is 'normal' speed (Standard?); I think Leoreth has mentioned that all UHVs are specifically balanced for Normal, not Epic or Marathon. That might be what makes a difference.

If you play older version - there can be missed some turns on Marathon and Epic speed, look git update thread

I think I won it without building the second settler, just the granary first and then check that citizens work the food tiles. Getting Alloys and the second corn is important as well.
