YAY YAY YAY YAYYY!!!!! YES!!!! And a new studio album in the works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Now, please excuse that.

I wonder what the new studio album that they work on will consist of. Whether it'll follow Mojo or go in a completely different direction or have the sound of one of the previous albums.

Also, the part about his "last show for a while" sounds suspiciously like the 2006 interview... The media had made it sound like a huge deal like he was retiring for good. But he didn't and he went on tour again. (I get the feeling he's going to keep touring until he physically can't.)

Now, I wonder how quick I could get a passport and a couple thousand dollars for an airplane ticket and a hotel.... Eh, it's fun to dream.

Isn't he kind of old for that? Is the album with him in a wheelchair or hum-a-round? :)

He should have given up years ago before letting the little musical talent he had escape him.

Do you think the new studio album which way do you think it will go?

Anyways I'm getting a lot of Google Alerts about this gig and here is a Los Angeles Times article about that thing:

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2011/10/tom-petty-kcsn-benefit-concert.html

Wish I could make it but it's not feasible... Even if I could scrounge up a passport & transportation & hotel costs in time the hall's only 500 seats so the tickets will be outrageously priced and anyways they'd probably all be gone by the time I got around. :(

I'll just pretend this post doesn't exist.

Pfft. I did seriously consider it. But it takes several weeks to get a passport (at a good time) and its at the end of the month and smuggling myself through the border might get me arrested.

Why don't you get a passport anyway so that that is one thing that won't get in the way next time ?

I for one think it would be awesome if you went to a TP concert , and you know you'll always regret it if you never see him play

Let's discuss what Petty's biggest fault is. Is it his unoriginal song writing, bad lyrics, misogynistic attitudes or apparently obsessive fandom?

    misogynistic attitudes....?

For the first two I take it you've not listened past Greatest Hits.

For the last one I will not comment.

In the US all you do is send in an application and a check or money order for like $60 or something, can't remember exactly, and it's valid for 10 years. It isn't that much more difficult in Canada is it?

Can you use a birth certificate or Canada's equivalent of a social security card? You aren't a hermit are you? You must know someone.

Both times I renewed my passport I just sent in my old one so I guess that provided proof and I was 13 when I got my first one and my Dad took care of the paperwork so I don't know what's required to get your 1st passport in the US. I remember going to Canada in the mid 90s and I think we didn't even need a passport, since I went with my grandmother and I'm pretty sure she doesn't have one. But I'm pretty sure you need one now to go between the 2 countries.

    I found this at http://www.ppt.gc.ca/articles/20090505.aspx?lang=eng

Can you get your birth certificate? It really doesn't make sense that you have to know someone with a passport to get a passport.

That you quote if you already have one and it expires.
