Tomatekh's Historical Religions VII

Tomatekh's Historical Religions VII v3.4

Where does the word Kukradja come from

It's a Kayapo term (part of the Macro Je language family) for knowledge, in the sense of worldview / tradition. Something like "Metoro Kukràdjà" would have probably been more specific as that's "Festival Knowledge" but I think the general term works for the mod.

Hey everyone, just a heads up, I’m likely going to post a small update in a day or two. This is mainly to correct a small conflict in the configuration file that was pointed out to me. I won’t be adding any new religions in the update, but will probably use the opportunity to add more functionality to the configuration file and rename a few of the religions. As with any update, there’s a chance it will interfere with existing saves.

Tomatekh updated Tomatekh's Historical Religions VII with a new update entry:

v3.1

v 3.1:

- Fixed a conflict in the Config File.
- All Religions can now be individually loaded as a Custom Icon instead of a Named Religion by setting their Value to ‘2’ in the Religion List in the Config File. (This option was previously available in groups but can now be done individually in any mode).
- Renamed several of the Religions. (This was done so that there’s a more consistent approach to how I named the religions across the mod).
- No new religions, but I added a new base icon to organize the Volta-Niger religions. So, essentially a new custom icon.

I don’t know how the update will play with previous saves; it'd probably depend on what era you were in and what settings you had in the config file.. There’s a temporary link to download the previous version (3.0) in the second post of this thread if Steam automatically updated and you need it to continue your previous save.

You’ll also have to reset your values in the Config File if you use it.

How many names were changed
The main ones were:

Razzana - Fomba Gasy
Imuni - Kastom
Nommo - Lebe Cult
Orenda - Ongwehonweka
Mahoma - Sipi Cult
Wakan Tanka - Wocekiye

Then there were several more that didn't change but I added ism/cult/faith/native language equivalent to the end

If you use the mod, even if you don't use the Workshop, I'd appreciate if you can give it an upvote there so it doesn't get buried with all the new releases.
Done and thank you for effort with this!:clap:Religion being gameplaywise in subpar condition in Civ7 is one thing, but with those great icons as eye candy it is at least possible to have and spread some immersion when moving the missionaries around - I realized in my current game with the Inca how limited the choices are in vanilla :c5faith:

Thanks! I really appreciate it! And yeah, 7's religion system is disappointing to say the least and doesn't even have basics like leader preferences and pedia entries, but at least the mod can provide some variety so the AI doesn't choose the same 12 icons every game.

Hey, everyone! I have an update just about finished which should be ready to post either Monday or Tuesday. As with any update, there’s a chance it will interfere with existing saves and it'll reset your config file. I really am sorry about that, but it can't really be helped. As always, I'll keep a manual download of the previous (current) version active in case it's needed.

Tomatekh updated Tomatekh's Historical Religions VII with a new update entry:

v3.2

- You can now Force Load a religion regardless of other enabled options by setting it to 3 in the Config File (if, for example, you want to load a named base religion alongside active denominations or load religions normally disabled in your mod mode or by limiting to Exploration Era religions)
- Fixed religions occasionally appearing twice (as both a Named Religion and Custom Icon) with certain Config File setting combinations
- Fixed Nestorianism not working with the Config File options
- Added Genghis, Assyria, Dai Viet to the preference tables in case Firaxis ever uses them
- Adjusted my existing preference table settings
- Changed the Ifa icon to a Crowie Shell
- Reversed the Moon icon so it won't overlap with Silla's civ icon
- The Restorationism icon no longer has a cross if set as a custom icon
- Added a base denomination icon to organize the Northeast Woodlands religions
- Added new custom icons: Mirror, Sword, Sun Wheel, Masonry, Spider
- Some custom icons (with an * in config file) can now also be loaded as a named religion by setting their value to 2
- Added new religions: Yurupari Flute Cult (Amazonian denomination), Kaumaram (Hindu denomination), Scientology, Theosophy
- Repurposed the Pentacle icon for Wicca (named religion) to even the religion numbers
- The Theosophy icon loads as a regular Ouroboros icon if set as a custom icon
- Additional unused religions and icons can be activated in the config file
- Base and Lite mode now display the Sunni icon (base game Islam) for Islam
- Standard mode now displays the Tale e Fonua icon for Manaism
- Added more alternate name choices to the Config File
- Added support for the Standard Mode Quick Set companion mod
- Slightly reordered and/or recolored some of the existing icons to accommodate the new ones
- Misc. minor text, art, code adjustments and clean up

I also posted the "HR VII Standard Quick Set" mod.

If that mod is enabled, it adjusts HR VII to load in 'Standard Mode' by default without editing the configuration file.

If you are comfortable editing the configuration file, that mod doesn't add anything new, but I know a few people don't like editing extra files and wanted an easier way to set the mod to the more streamlined religion list.

Hey, everyone! v3.2 is posted.

As with any update, there is a small chance it can interfere with an existing save. The chance is relatively minor, but if you find issues there's a link to download and manually install the previous version (3.1) in the second post of this thread.

Usually, the most it will cause is for the chosen religions to be re-ordered or changed, but, if a religion no longer exists, it will delete it from your game (usually only rare cases with custom religions but may happen with Islam in Base/Lite mode after the update). Loading the new version in Complete Mode (as every religion is present in the files) might also let you continue existing saves without any issue.

Your Config File settings will also be reset.

As always, I really am sorry for the inconvenience, but it can't be helped when posting an update.

Hey, if you guys can help me out:

Today's Civ VII update 1.2.4 includes this in the patch notes:

Religion & Ideology

  • Added icons on the Leader Ribbon that appear after Founding a Religion in Exploration or Joining an Ideology in Modern.
    • The Ideology icons for other leaders now appear Green or Red to indicate whether they share your Ideology.
      • Dev note: This should make it easier to see which leaders have joined each Ideology – an important factor when choosing an Ideology or deciding which leaders to target for Settlements to progress toward the Ideology Legacy Path in Modern.
    • Religion Icons will reflect your Religion's chosen icon and name (including custom name).

I don't really have time to check this out until later in the week. Can anyone make sure my mod works with this? If it doesn't I'll try to fix it by next weekend.

Okay, someone messaged me with the answer

So, it does work (Yay!) BUT it has the same issue as all my icons vs. the official ones; slightly distorted at smaller sizes and lacking a general blurriness. Since the leader ribbon is a larger size, it's much less of an issue than on the city bar, but, something I probably need the official art tools to address.

On a related noted, it was also pointed out to me that my new religions don't work with some religion lens mods. This is another thing that needs the official art tools and otherwise can't be fixed on HR's or the lens mod's end. So, let's hope Firaxis does give them to us eventually.

hullo, I found a religion you might be interested in including in your mod

Hi! Thanks, it would be a good addition. I remember I read a bit about it back in the Civ VI days when I was adding Yazidism, a related Kurdish tradition. My next update is already planned out, but maybe the update after that I will be able to add it.

Hey, everyone!

I will have an update ready for the new patch; maybe tomorrow night after the patch is posted but could be delayed until Tuesday or Wednesday depending on other factors.

This could actually be considered a double update. Since the patch came out later than usual and given my busy schedule next month, I pushed to combine my next two planned updates for the release (so, Yarsanism will be in this update instead of waiting for the next).

v3.3

- Added options to the config file to re-order the religion list: fully alphabetical (this option also works with the alternate name choices); or by region
- Added an option to the config file to quick tone down the amount of denominations loaded in Complete Mode
- Added an option to the config file to quick disable all custom icons
- Softened the religion icons on the leader ribbon (this is the best I can do until they release the official art tools)
- Added Lakshmibai to the preference tables
- New Religions: Agriculturalism (Warring States School of Tillers / Nonjia), Bwiti (Bambenga Pygmy), Carvaka (Early Indian Atheistic - Hedonistic Philosophy), Cult of Reason (French Revolution Atheistic Religion), Cult of the Supreme Being (French Revolution Deistic Religion), Kuksu Society (North Indigenous California), Nat Kókwehmu (Burmese Folk), Nhialicism (Dinka), Suwo (Chibchano), Unitarianism (Nontrinitarian Protestantism), Valentinianism (Syriac–Egyptian Gnosticism), Waashat (Northwest American Indigenous Revitalization Movement), Yarsanism (Kurdish Syncretic Ethnic Faith)
- Religion Changes: Antap Cult renamed Toloache Cult, now sub Kuksu Society, new icon; Chiminigaguaism now sub Suwo; Lebe Cult renamed Dyow; Pohakantenna renamed Nanisuntehaippe; Nipilakaka renamed Wéeyekweecet; Scaanaang renamed K'aygangnga; Sipi Cult now sub Southern Cult; Caduceus, Rose Cross, Masonry, Sun Wheel moved to named religions; Puritanism and the Mirror and Spider custom icons are temporarily disabled until the next update as I intend to redo their icons (you can re-enable them in the configuration file)
- Several religions have been re-organized in a superficial way
- Corrected the leader ribbon religion icons for Legalism, Ouroboros, Imamiyyah
- Adjusted the Standard Mode religions
- Additional custom icons can now also be loaded as named religions with the config file
- Added more alternate name choices to the config file
- Fixed some names not changing correctly
- Added a bit of code to support DarthKyofu's Camel Religion Mod so that it still gets grouped with the other custom icons if loaded first (this can be disabled in the config file)
- Added support for the All Custom Quick Set companion mod
- Added support for the Exploration Limit Quick Set companion mod (TBD)
- Added support for the Default Settings Quick Set companion mod (TBD)
- Slightly reordered, resized, and/or recolored some of the existing icons to accommodate the changes (with an aim to improve the color similarity on Standard Mode)
- Misc. minor text, art, code adjustments and clean up

Is there any chance you update your Civilization 5 and 6 mods with the new religions?

Is there any chance you update your Civilization 5 and 6 mods with the new religions?

That's kind of complicated.

I would like to do it. At the very least, they have some name and icon choices that are kind of outdated and have some representation gaps, especially in South America and Africa. So, even if I probably wouldn't port the entirety of the 7 mod, I would like to address that.

But there's some issues stopping me.

5 was before I realized I could use a configuration file, so there's like 20 different HR mods uploaded for 5. Updating all of them would be too much work. Even if I wanted to, I'm pretty sure I no longer have my original Civ 5 modding files. So, I'd have to recreate the modding files from scratch. I've thought about keeping the existing 5 HR mods as is and instead just making a new mod - HR... Plus?... Remastered?... Complete Complete?... IDK - to be the update. I don't know how wanted this would be? There's been a lot of great Civ 5 religion mods in the interim and my update wouldn't include any of their religions because I see no need to overlap with them (though, again, even with these I still think South America and Africa could use some new religions). I'm also concerned with messing up existing compatibility. If I keep the same religion names in the files, it shouldn't be too much of an issue, but I'd also need to essentially relearn how to mod Civ 5 and all the additional mods that I usually included support for (is Events still used, are there new big mods that people support, etc.). Overall, though, I think something like that for 5 is doable.

6 is a different story. I remember 6 being a hassle to update. Every religion needed 4 different versions of the icon (constellation, city bar, religion overlay, historical moments) which would be a lot to do if I added most of the 7 religions (on top of doing at least basic, few sentence long pedia entries for the new religions). I also don't remember how to add the art to the game, which I'd have to relearn and was a whole process putting everything into a blp file. Because of all that, not that many people actually made new religion mods for 6 (Leugi made cool fruit custom icons, Zebenji did a half modern religions half fantasy religions mod, and then maybe a handful of one-off fictional religion mods). So, even though 6 would probably benefit more from an update porting the 7 stuff than 5 (which has a lot of other really good religion mods), it's just so much work that I really am hesitant to start an update.

But again, it's been several years since I last updated either mod (almost a decade for Civ 5). It might be better to just leave well enough alone. The outdated names and representation gaps do kind of bother me looking back at the mods since I made the Civ 7 version, but that's also just me being obsessive compulsive.

If people really want me to, though, I'll look into doing it more seriously.
