I feel like taking the religion golden age *should* be interesting - but, if the only benefit is the founder's belief... I've never yet found a way to unlock additional ones during the exploration age, so not sure it's worth it unless they unlock in modern. Or if the religious policies that add benefits based on # of your own settlements following your religion still exist. Has anyone tried it? If so, what did you think?

I take it if I did well on religion. I took it in my latest gane where I am getting culture per city. I do wish it told.me what the benefit was so I could weigh if it was preferable to others but it works well.

Ive heard the other slots unlock by getting a % of the population on your home or distant lands high enough, that unlocks another slot. Like 70 or 80%. I have yet to come close to that number, or see any stream/video hit that number and unlock them. Frankly, unless you blitz religion faster than the AI, or they ignore it, getting that high of a % feels like a waste of resources for what you get. The movement rules + needing to convert twice if they have a religion, makes it very time consuming. Its essentially an uphill battle. If you had a way of defending your cities other than just reconverting them, then maybe it would be better. but then we would be back where civ 6 was.

At least you can convert holy cities now which blocked that % requirement.(if true) Not to mention making getting relics easier.

Unless you plan on running those 2 policies that require your cities to follow your religion, you are better off not bothering converting your own cities. Your religions bonuses apply to foreign cities, not yours. If you run the tolerant policies for the crisis, you can also ignore your own cities.

This particular game, I used the convert with trader and both religious policies. I reached the point I was minting money so just kept buying and spamming my missionaries, yet never broke 45% conversion. I did also have the relics from converting independents, and something else I don't remember, so I ended up with something like 45 relics!

Yeah I had tithes (+4 gold) on a large map and had converted 80% of the world. So I started modern age with like +400 culture.

I tend to take Tithe as a religion bonus, and I've been hosed by taking the Treasure Fleets golden age (which can just hopelessly wreck your economy going into Modern if you have a lot of cities at the end of Exploration.) So if I've done well in spreading my religion around, it's worth it to me sometimes to take Toshakhana just for the strong income coming into Modern.

That's the one I was thinking of in another thread! If you get the 4 science per foreign settlement, that can add up to a huge boost early on.
IF you snagged enough foreign settlements.

A good treasure fleet in explo age can let you spam missionaries. (you only carry 10k gold over, so may as well spend it)

I have hit 100% conversion (AI was well, dumb that time)

So yeah, I do take this one if I get it.
