Total Mod tech tree messed up

Dear all

It is my first time trying mods. I installed Total Mod and started a new game. But when I open the tech tree, the screen is messed up (there is no tech to choose from)

what have i done wrong?

Yeah same thing happens to me with this mod, it is probably because it hasnt been updated in a long time.

presumably steam will auto install the latest patch? How do I know if I have the latest patch??
