Trade Routes Breaking?

I took over a continent and I had a single line road running from my capital through each city. For some reason my trade routes "broke" and I can't figure out why. The roads are still there....only thing I can think is maybe once I finished a harbor it took over for the trade route and broke the road/line??

I also had this happen to me - although a couple of turns later it came up with another message saying they were connected again - bug maybe??

If you switch to Strategic View, there's a trade route overlay that might help you figure out the problem. Assuming it's not a bug, of course.

It broke in a few spots for no apparent reason. I have checked the strat overview map and I have roads there still and I own the territory, but the trade route is just broke....no clue, probly a bug. I am still recieving a ton of income from trade according to economic screen.

Oh, I get you now. Yeah, Harbors take over for roads. It seems to me that the routes are determined by finding the shortest path back to the capital, in road/rail tiles. Harbor-to-harbor connections count as zero-length.

I've had this same thing happen a few times, was rather odd but my cities still had the trade symbol underneath it so I ignored the message.

Haven't ever built harbors.

Same thing happened to ME!
If you switch to Strategic View...
But my ciV crashes in strategic view (and I hear I'm no the only one)....

It happens to me all the time. It starts when I start building harbors. Trade routes start breaking and reforming for no apparent reason.

Hi,

I had the same thing and it was because a city-state was cutting my road with his culture. Maybe you guys experience the same? Making a new road near the border fixed it for me.

I think this is because the harbor represents a new trade route. So the land route gets replaced by the sea route.

I've had trade routes cut because my road network went through a tile that was grabbed by someone else's culture (damn you Caesar) and my open borders agreement expired.

I figured out this also. In addition I think if the trade route is by a harbour, if the AI or Barbs have a ship blocking the tile in front of your city, this also breaks the trade route - reaffirms itslef when the ship moves or is destroyed
