Trade Routes through 'Canal Cities'?

If I have a city on the shores of an inland sea and build another city on a one-tile wide isthmus, can I make harbor-to-harbor trade connections through that canal city to other cities in my empire that might be sitting on another continent or island outside of the landlocked lake? I have a city that can only be accessed by land through hostile territory, as it sits on a landlocked lake.

In my experience, yes.

Routes will go through the city. I'm not sure if your "landlocked lake" city will be able to produce ocean style buildings though if it is truly a lake.

The lake is large enough that I was able to build lighthouses, harbors and ocean going vessels. I did build my canal city, so we shall see.
