I do hope that they fix the auto explore function in ciV.

I like to use it but the AI decides that if it is quicker to trespass on a city states land (who isn't friendly or allied) then it will do that.

It lowers relations which is the opposite of what I want to accomplish.

I suppose I could just manually explore for now. I hope they fix this.

While this caused me some anxiety at first too, I later realized it really isn't that big a deal as this typically happens at the beginning of the game, before you've build much of a relationship, and by the time you are building relationships your points have long since recovered back to zero. I did have one occasion though where my scout stopped exploring because everything was explored and he just happened to stop in a city-state's territory. It's a bit sloppy right now and I hope they fix it but it's really not all that big a deal.

Trespassing isn't a big deal. One or two turns and all will be forgiven (as long as you aren't send a large force through). A scout "just passin' through" won't have any long term effect.

Well, I am playing as Siam on a huge map with 12 AIs and 28 city states.

Needless to say, there is plenty of exploring to do and the last thing I want to do is piss off city states.

Also, there are many many Barbs out there. So I sometimes have to rush scouts back to kill Barbs. If I send them back they always trespass on city states' land.

Perhaps on a normal sized map it wouldn't be as much of a problem.

Anyway, a little better pathfinder AI should do the trick.

The worst is when you are manually exploring and you click an explored and unseen tile that just happens to be in a City-State's territory.

ARRRRRRRRRGHH RAAAAAAAAAAAGE

Your relationship with city states naturally decays. This speeds up the process.

They need to fix the pathfinding AI in their next patch.

I knew about tresspassing so i painfully avoided it in my first game, later i decided to se what would happen if i did tresspass, and its basically diddly squat, you lose a bit of influence, but seeing as how its basically impossible to get them to be your allies anyway, (unless you do quests or wait for later) you might as well go ahead and tresspass

If your goal is to ally with the city state, then your already likely friends and then they won't mind.

Relationships decay towards 0.

Except for the handful of city states you are wooing, the small hit from an exploring scout isn't a problem. They will decay back towards 0 in short order.

It doesn't matter if you think it is only a small problem. It is totally unnecessary and could have been avoided if the game was more polished.

The fact is that it is bad AI that hopefully will be fixed quickly.

It's not a game breaker for me by any means and the game is pretty good otherwise.

Just like the crappy rivers. Not a huge deal but they do need to be greatly improved.

I experienced that too and I find it annoying.
Nonetheless it could be useful in certain cases... for example imagine a city state that occupies a narrow passage. Your scouts are forced to trespass on its territory if they want to explore the other side. If they are forbiddend to do so they could not explore everywhere.
I don't know what would be the best solution.

Best solution would be an option to tell explorers not to trespass. Problem solved.

Options: "Allow Automated Explorers to Trespass on City State Property On/Off"

I'm genuinely surprised this is not already there.
