After playing a few 20k attempts here and there on Sid I've found that the Mongols often will research Code of Laws after Writing. Anyone spotted any other tribes that have a tendency to do this?

Don't play Sid yet. :p

Persia and Russia. Mongols indeed are good at beelining it.

How are you finding out which civilizations are researching advances in a particular order?

i don't know about the ts, but that info is readily available in civassist2. it doesn't explicitly show you what order techs are being researched in, but it's easy to determine that if you check the techs section after every turn.

I'm using MapStat checking who has what every turn, similar to what marioh said.

Both Windows-based programs, I am on a non-Intel Mac iBook. so I cannot use them.

the AI neglects that bit of the tree. mongols have probably got it due to expansionist. possibly russia as well.

the dutch and vikings will beeline for writing, and the portuguese and hittities may get it thanks to expansionist, but apart from that, they don't bother.

persia prefer iron working, in my games.

Does Sumeria always research Monarchy? I've also noticed a tendency of theirs to adopt fascism.

i've noticed the ottomans love polythesim. because they beeline for it, it's a cheap way to pick it up without researching it, because you can usually trade 3 or 4 techs for it

oddly for a scientific tribe, i find sumeria to be always behind at the start. once they hit the middle ages though, the scientific+agricutural combo kicks in.

i've noticed that korea beeline for mathematics, also

probably cos the catapult upgrades to their UU?

Makes sense. In the real world Temujin ordered that an alphabet be created or borrowed to create a written Mongol language so his code of laws could be written down.
