Tricking Steam Region?

I remember downloading Civ 5 "early" (ie the same time as North Americans), when I was basically supposed to wait another 2-3 days for no good reason apart from being European.

With G&K being released on the 22nd here I'd like to do the same again, except I've completely forgotten what I did. Steam doesn't appear to be falling for my proxy either, so if anyone has a clue what to do I'd be much obliged.
