The last couple of months I have been in the military. I recently got out. My plan is to go to university this fall. Until then I don't have that much planned. I want to go on a big adventure. I don't want to back pack and look att museums, I want more of an expedition. I have got about $15 000 and a couple of months to spend on this trip. My goal is not to enjoy the trip, but to sufer through something beyond what most people will ever experiance.

So far I have thought of these

skiing in greenland a bit over budget but definetly on the right track.

Going on a very long bicycle trip that would last for months.

You want bragging rights then? I'm afraid there'll always be someone as awesome/wealthy as you in the whole trips abroad category.

You could really put yourself ahead of the pack by buying €15,000 worth of DMT and or Mushrooms/LSD and taking a trip from which you may never return. Lasting several months/years.

In the military I got to see some extreme things. We where keept awake for long periods of time, we where forced to march for ages, many droped out. Having completed that challenge I want to take things to the next level.

You could bicycle to almost anywhere if you want to. Every now and then there's a story in the newspaper of someone who has bicycled from Norway to Cape Town, or from India to Sweden etc. You could also do something similar with roller blades or anything if you prefer that. And don't think you need very good and expensive gear, but be prepared to spend some time on fixing/repairing stuff. It's also cheap as you can just sleep in a tent or hostels.

Actually there was an article about "tough" group trips in a Norwegian newspaper just a few days ago. This seems to be the one that focuses least on enjoyment, and they have trips to even Antarctica, Kilimanjaro etc. Here is another similar one which is cheaper. More links in the article too.

It's also very popular and cheap to go solo backpacking in South America or South(east) Asia. Either there or in Africa could maybe be something you were looking for.

cool idea. will be googled.

I went here in ‘89/’90. If I recall correctly it is about a 4* hour boat ride down the river from Coca in Ecuador. Pretty cool really.

My other suggestion would be an African safari, maybe with a climb to the top of Kilimanjaro or Mt. Kenya.

*EDIT: 2.5 hours according to the web site.

Oh we're talking about xXxTREEEEEM trips. I was gonna suggest a drive through all the countries of Europe as that's something few people ever get to do and something I'd like to do someday. :)

Why don't you go on an expedition to reach the summit of Mount Everest? Their are guides who will take you even if you don't have mountain climbing experience. Survival is not at all guaranteed either as there have been fatalities.

63% of Americans can't find Iraq on a map, 24% don't know what country the USA gained independence from and 18% think the sun rotates around Earth. 50% plus one vote is all that is needed to rule the country. Is mob rule (democracy) such a good idea?

(Off-Topic)

You're sig tries to make a point that Americans are stupid. I have seen similar statistics exploiting stupidity of residents of other western countries. I just see things like this are more commonly quoted of American's than citizens of other countries because it is so popular and hip to be Anti-American nowadays across the world.

If you poll almost any other western country though and ask a preselected set of questions that you claim to be common knowledge you can get a percentage of the population to look ignorant. (Yes, even Europe. I know I found a poll similar to this one of the U.K).

I also question the source for your sig. I do not believe at face value that such a large percentage of our country does not know we declared independence from Great Britain since that is taught heavily in public schools.

You know that does give me an interesting idea. Maybe I should do my own survey while I am at work with my own set of questions.

Run a marathon from Brasilia, going North. Cycle until the Amazon river. Swim across the Amazon river. Take a plane to America. Jet-Ski across the Pacific Ocean to PR China.

People's ignorance about government and politics is ruining this country. :(

If people weren't so influenced by the political propaganda machines maybe people would vote for parties that actually had a platform based on helping Americans and not on discrediting the other party. We wouldn't have to suffer this two party system anymore.

So your suggestion is that he enter politics?

Get a weight. Get an airtank.

Ride the weight down to the bottom of the ocean (you can pick the depth). then when you're at the bottom, open the airtank and ride it all the way to the surface.

Maybe in shallow enough areas, you can actually ride it a bit into the air and scare tourists.
