Triple Threat River

    I was rolling games to playtest a civ, and had a start where my capital was capable of building 3 dams. I've never seen such wild waterways!
    Disaster setting 4, so times were tough before buttress.

    (It's a custom civ I'm working on. I'm very proud of my blue tinged steel gray color.)

    Then I found that neighbor poland's capital had a weird floodplain with 2 dams possible as well. And the Pamukkale had both of its double tiles occupied by truffles+horses :crazyeye:

    I swear Firaxis turned up the wackiness on their map gen in the last patch.

    The fact that the Niter tile is blocking such a prime IZ spot is killing me on the inside.

    And those empty hills! Compulsive need to terrace must be restrained...

    Wouldn't it have been better to switch the IZ and aquaduct? Would also give another adjacency point for mine on niter and that hill.

    Wouldnt a single Dam in Sentinel be enough to keep you safe? Or you MUSt have one for each stream¿? Because Ive been placing a single Dam per river, at the lowest point and calling it a day. I really cant recall it biting my ass. Or is it just to gain more industrial zone adjacency?

    What’s shown is actually, by the game, considered 3 separate rivers. They flood independently.
    But yes, 90% of what I do is for more IZ adjacency. I don’t care if people’s homes get flooded, I want every last hammer!

    Ahhh I see, thanks. I havent really payed attention to it, its very likely that Ive built more dams than I thought I needed because of the housing and amenities (i tend to play tall) but in any case, Ill keep it in mind. I still have a lot of tooltips and not-so-obvious bonuses to memorize and implement in my games.

    You can't build more than one dam per river, not even in different cities. So you can never build too many.

    Of course, I mean for cases like these, where the same floodplains touches 2 cities, and I can build a dam on both, or there are several streams.

    A bit of necroing but I had to say I can hear the tune of "Can't touch this... Hammer time" the moment those dams go up. If there were ever a song more appropriate...

    I was loosely making a civ themed like one from civ5’s Empires of the Smoky Skies scenario (Orlin is one of the nations,) and at some point I decided their icon should be the Eye of Providence; I borrowed the icon from the ARC in beyond earth, and while I was there lifted some city names too, hence axiom + sentinel. "Occidental Empire" forever!
    I ran into some roadblocks trying to get leader art to appear in game, which seems to be a common struggle area from custom civs, but mechanically they function fine:
