Okay, but what does any of that have to do with the outlandish conspiracy theory that Trump is going to try to make himself dictator for life?

Not at all. Obama never joked about staying in office forever. Trump has done so numerous times.

Nah, Obama did crack a few jokes about a third term. Anyone who took those jokes seriously was a loon, just like anyone who takes Trump's jokes seriously.

People pretending to be worried that any particular president is trying to be a dictator are just engaging in partisan hackery by painting the opposition as being Satan made flesh.

Do you also believe the Queen is a reptilian demon?

Believing it's a slam dunk that a demagogue and criminal like Trump walks peacefully and calmly, in all circumstances in 2020 or 2024, requires a little more faith in Trump's character and the strength of US political norms and institutions than is perhaps warranted.

The biggest determinant is probably gonna be how certain he is to be jailed afterwards.

Mmmhmm. And Obama was born in Kenya, Bush did 9/11, the Illuminati secretly run the world, and there is a vast global conspiracy to hide the fact that the Earth is flat.

This false equivalency between Barack Obama, a conventional centrist technocrat, and Donald Trump, a senile grifter, repeatedly accused rapist and instinctive autocrat, really does do you no favours.

Firstly Obama is intelligent and ran a scandal free white house over the period of eight years. He might have been disappointing but he carried himself well throughout hes presidency
Trump on the other hand has shown repeated criminal behavior, and disregard for norms of the US Presidency.

Having said that, there no chance of a third term, Trump brand will be so toxic by that stage Republicans will be eager to see the back of him, hes family and then all have collective amnesia

Will the Republicans be meaningfully distinct from Trumpism by then?

Arming terrorists in Syria wasn't scandalous

Once again Arming of Syria opposition forces was approved in 2004 by the US congress
And weapons were captured by ISIS or forces defected to ISIS.

Why dont you blame G.W.Bush for arming ISIS ? since ISIS capture huge stockpiles from Iraq

You said Obama was scandal free and now you're changing the subject. Bush lied us into invading Iraq, that was his scandal. Obama 'covertly' armed Syrian terrorists, thats his scandal. And you think ISIS were the only terrorists in Syria?

    https://consortiumnews.com/2016/02/16/obamas-moderate-syrian-deception/

We were arming Al Qaeda because they were the most effective force fighting the Assad regime and Obama kept telling us we supported 'moderates'.

    I'd say 55%-75%.
There's no way he's going to win the popular vote, but the Repubs will find a way to steal the election.

I don't blame the public as much as I blame the system and the Democrats. Those feckless nerds let them steal a Supreme Court seat and refuse to fight dirty. Or maybe they're in on it. Who knows ?

Right-wingers also said that Obama was a facist who'll throw people in concentration camps, and here we are.
Anyway, it's a moot point. He probably won't make it to 2024 with his unhealthy diet, (alleged) meth addiction, and ever more obvious dementia.
And even if he got a third term it, I doubt that he has much more power and agency than some underaged, mentally impaired, late-stage-incest Habsburg ruler. The real decisions will be (or are already) made by an informal council of corpse eating ghouls and stone hearted gargoyles.

    *deep breath*

Okay now that I got that out of my system: Fast and Furious and the weaponization of the IRS against political opponents are just two scandals off the top of my head from the Obama administration.

His use of the military in Libya was also a pretty controversial move, even though I agreed with him on that.

Scandal free my posterior. His administration copied Nixon, but with better tech then tried to cover up with a phony investigation.

The unraveling of who did what will be the story of the next year. That's an election year, if you have any doubt.

The impression i've got from over here is that his support has waned in the wider public. Lots of people who voted for him thinking it would be a change have been disappointed. Lots of people who thought he couldn't really be that bad have been disappointed. Lots of people who believed he was competent enough to achieve anything have been disappointed.

    Early days yet tho.

Are you suggesting Obama set the bar on disappointing his voters? Outrageous! :D
