Trying to remember an oldish sci-fi show

The discussion in the B5 topic about Earth Final Conflict has reminded me of a series I watched 20ish years ago, but I can't remember what it was called. I actually thought EFC might be it, but that doesn't seem to fit what I can remember.

Unfortunately, I don't have many elements to help pinpoint it... except for a major spoiler: its ending.

It was set on a contemporary Earth, in the US (almost positive).
I don't remember whether we saw the aliens or not (if we did, I guess they had human form), but they had humans working for them.
I think it ran for a single season, and it ran before 2006 (I remember watching it while living at a place I left in 2006).

Spoiler The ending :

The heroes discover the true purpose of a device the aliens have had built: it's supposed to "alienform" Earth.
They storm the building housing the device and manage to get to it... but one of the enemies crawls to the triggering mechanism and manages to activate it before he can be stopped.
The last shots are of the released energies coursing the globe.
The aliens have won, humanity is doomed.

My first thought was Invasion (2005),with William Fichtner (sharp-eyed viewers will catch a glimpse of Elisabeth Moss in the trailer). It featured aliens in human form and only lasted 1 season, but I don't recall how the season/series ended.

Another possibility, if you're misremembering when exactly you saw it, is the remake of V (2009) with Elizabeth Michell and Morena Baccarin. It technically had 2 seasons, but a total of 22 episodes, so if you binged it, you could maybe think it was one network season, back when 20-24 episodes per season was the norm for US tv series.

Definitely not the V remake, I remember that one, and I have the DVDs for it. It was canceled before getting a proper ending (Although in this case too, if it ends there, then the aliens have won).

Invasion is a possibility (the "hybrids" ring a bell), but from the plot summaries I could find, it doesn't seem to be it either. :(

I found this one though I have never seen it or even heard of it:

Threshold

Appears it was canceled by CBS after the 13th episode. I had watched some of Invasion though did not get into it and around this time I started watching less and less Network TV. I don't remember this one at all, but the cast is interesting.

Invasion: Earth, maybe

Seems too different from what I remember to be it, but thanks anyway. :)

Lymond's Threshold suggestion is probably it.
