Welcome to the 260th game in the GOTM V Training Series! This Series allows new and old Civilization V fans to try out many features from Civ5's expansions and DLCs in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread.

And to all players and friends of GotM: Happy New Year!

MUST READ!
Our most sacred rule: Do not replay any turns!
If you make a mistake, accept it, and try to recover through game-play. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to "1 turn". In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous autosave, then play on the same way you played it the first time. Please let Leif or me know (either in the forums or through Private Message) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Information about threads associated with each individual TSG - Must Read if you are new to the Game of the Month!

Please note:

Spoiler :

If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.
TSG Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don't be afraid to ask questions). Its also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don't post any game-related info once you open and play the save. Instead use the next thread.
After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

File Upload System
Spoiler :

We have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature) Please note: you must submit your game on the turn following Victory. If you continue to play, the game overwrites the data and your submission could be rejected by the submission system.
This game runs through January 31st 2025.

Happy New Year!

My last few games have been crashing and I haven’t been able to fix it, but hopefully this one will fare better.

Start looks very resource plentiful. Think I will move the settler to the hill where the warrior is located. The UA will make acquiring our luxuries from the third ring much easier.

Happy New Year, fellow fans!

So here is yet another game where I am tempted to go settle by the coast for the sake of food trade routes. Yet, I think I will not because a) sea tiles are wasted in a large capital - and this capital will be large before I win or lose - and b) there seems to be room for a nice town at the mouth of the river.

I really struggle with cultural v because my games tend to become a mash of a little bit of everything.

Hmm, did we skip right to Deity or is that a mistype? I'd actually welcome that; it would be great to have one easier game (Prince, King, Emperor) and one harder game (Immortal, Deity) per month.

Regardless, looks like a good start. I'm tempted to move to the Cotton and settle there. You still get a garden. But not a Hydro Plant. The hill where the warrior is would be good too, but moves away from two 2-food tiles in the first ring. That may be a hill the settler is standing on, can't quite tell. If it is, definitely SiP. Wish the warrior could move to the NW to see what's beyond the Cotton to tell if moving to the river hill will lose anything; I wonder if moving him one west will reveal any more tiles to the NW?

Last year, @vadalaz and I started a new "tradition" of having a Deity game during the holiday season. And thus we continue with that now. The next game, available in the middle of January will be on Emperor followed by games on Immortal and Deity in February. In March the games will then again be on easy levels.

I hate working 2f-2g tiles for my first two pop though, so in that case you’re buying one of the deer tiles in second ring (25g) whether you SIP or move to the hill with the warrior. The marginal cost is really just the one turn to move for the one extra production (which also gives the benefit of an extra forest to chop).

I’m never settling on top of cotton here as that puts 3 deer/wheat tiles outside my workable ring.

Interesting, I did not even notice the coastal hill as an option. There is also the grassland river coastal tile, but that seems very risky without knowing what’s beyond the wheat. If our warrior was on the opposite side of the river and could see into the fog either north or east it would make those viable.

Food will definitely not be a problem in the capital and CV allows for tall or wide, so I’m not overly concerned with missing out on sea trade routes.

Happy New Year everyone!

I missed the previous GotM; time victory seemed like a bit of a grind to me, but I thought I might try it in my holiday. Then on the first day of my holiday my laptop broke down. Now I have a new laptop and there is a shiny new GotM as well :) . I've always liked America: cheap tile purchasing, better scouting, and a gunpowder unit that ignores terrain cost. The American unique units tend to steer me towards domination, so perhaps for this game I will try to conquer great works of arts rather than constructing them all on my own.
