Welcome to Civilization 5 Game of the Month - GOTM #269
These games allow new and old GOTM fans to play Civ 5 in a friendly competitive environment. Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for.

How to play:
1) Download the savefile, then place it in the Saves\single folder. The default paths the folder are:
Windows: ...\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Saves\single\
Mac: ~/Documents/Aspyr/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/Saves/single/ or ~/Library/Application Support/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/Saves/single/
2) On the turn of your victory (or defeat), use the "lemme play one more turn" feature and save the game
3) Upload your savefile here

Where to discuss the game:
1) Announcement (this thread) - pre-game thoughts and questions
2) Opening actions - the first 100 turns
3) After actions - post-game discussion and feedback

MUST READ!
Our most sacred rule: Do not replay any turns!
If you make a mistake, accept it, and try to recover through game-play. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to "1 turn". In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous autosave, then play on the same way you played it the first time. Please let Leif or me know (either in the forums or through Private Message) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Information about threads associated with each individual TSG - Must Read if you are new to the Game of the Month!
Please note:

Spoiler :

If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.
TSG Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don't be afraid to ask questions). Its also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don't post any game-related info once you open and play the save. Instead use the next thread.
After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

File Upload System
Spoiler :
:

We have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature) Please note: you must submit your game on the turn following Victory. If you continue to play, the game overwrites the data and your submission could be rejected by the submission system.
This game runs through June 15th 2025.

Seems pretty rough and tough to me

Actually, the start location looks pretty strong to me, although we'll need to spend a turn to move to the hill and observatory location. This might even be a rare opportunity to pick Dance of the Aurora, I already see three workable unforested tundra tiles, and four if we chop the wooded hill deer. Can't wait to try this one out.

I wasn’t referring to the starting location alone but in conjunction with deity and culture.

Yea, Deity/Culture, the hardest victory there is. I've never won a CV on Deity except with Polynesia (twice) and that was on ideal water maps. The observatory hill/river/mountain with Salt, Wheat and Deer in the first ring will help jump start things. And the rough terrain and mountains will hopefully protect against an early enemy attack. But its still going to be rough going.

I'll move the warrior due east to see what's on the other side of the mountains. No question of going anything but Tradition here. And unless there's a lot of other Salt nearby, I'm probably going to forgo a religion so I don't have to waste time with shrines. Never been able to play France well but I'm going to try and play it like I play Polynesia; just concentrate on science and forget about Chateau until the later game and replace farms/mines with them as time goes by. And hope for some luck - like Mt. Kili being nearby!

Dang, I haven't even finished the previous game but I made the mistake of looking at this one and I'm way more excited to do this one. RIP.
The start looks amazing, but the Tundra tiles scare me, think I might have to rush my expansion or there's not much space. I'm assuming we're on the southern end of the map since the tundra is south of us, with the mountains being there as well it's time to explore north I guess.

As someone that hates the theming bonus minigame I'll struggle a bit with that, but nothing that the wiki can't help me with.

As addicted I am to forcing Liberty every game for any reason possible, I think due to the expected difficulty I have little choice but to take this one a bit more serious.

I scouted and it looks even more bleak, can I undo my wisdom and live in ignorance?
I must say, that this was not what I expected. However, now I am curious to learn what others think as well. Maybe you guys will mention something about this in the Opening Actions thread?

are you kidding ? there´s salt !
Like I've already said, I was referring also to the difficulty level and the victory condition, and why not the terrain itself and the tundra. So no, I was not kidding.

sry missed your clarification.
perhaps toughen up your deity play using acken's mod ?
The biggest flaw in my games is that I do all kinds of stupid sub-optimizations early on instead of just churning out settlers. It’s a habit I have had ever since civ3.

I guess sometimes you have to bite the bullet and hand build workers. But if we don’t have units to protect them or their improvements, I think another settler is the better choice. Besides, that allows for some extra time to get the worker stealing going. You can’t steal a settler.

I used to explore with my starting warrior and let it wander away to distant places but these days I’m sure it should remain in the home area nine times out of ten.
