Welcome to Civilization 5 Game of the Month - GOTM #280
These games allow new and old GOTM fans to play Civ 5 in a friendly competitive environment. Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for.

How to play:
1) Download the savefile, then place it in the Saves\single folder. The default paths the folder are:
Windows: ...\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Saves\single\
Mac: ~/Documents/Aspyr/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/Saves/single/ or ~/Library/Application Support/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/Saves/single/
Linux: ~/.local/share/Aspyr/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/Saves/single/
2) On the turn of your victory (or defeat), use the "lemme play one more turn" feature and save the game
3) Upload your final savefile here (the site is back up!)

Where to discuss the game:

1) Announcement (this thread) - pre-game thoughts and questions
2) Opening actions - the first 100 turns

MUST READ!
Our most sacred rule: Do not replay any turns!
If you make a mistake, accept it, and try to recover through game-play. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to "1 turn". In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous autosave, then play on the same way you played it the first time. Please let Leif or me know (either in the forums or through Private Message) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

This game runs through January 25th 2026

Well, Merry Christmas! ha. Deity though...I will give it my best shot. Could try the tradition trick with the temples, but not sure it is worth it, and likely won't bother with religion, or tradition for that matter...though it is only 2 policies..well 3 I guess. The question is what would you get first - monument, amphi, or temple...hmm. Only time I tried that was with Siam but years ago. I may at least open Trad first but likely go Lib>Honor mostly

Does that actually work? If so, how? I cant remember. You build monument and then the 3rd policy gives you a free temple?

Not sure if I want to go Tradtition for deity dom. I assume on an Africa map all civs are reachable by land?

yeah, i am not sure what the system prioritizes as the monuments will open amphis...but yeah, just does not seem relevant anyway here.

I may try going full honor this game, which is something a general don't do/not used too. probably right side first

Nice start, no way I'm moving from that. To have any chance of winning I'm going Tradition. Mud Pyramid is awesome; I will try to use the MC in this game, as a goal will try and position myself to use them to take a few cities when time comes for Knights.

Regarding the Temple trick? Why would the Tradition policy give a free Temple, because it has the most culture? Is it still considered a "Culture" building?

I can confirm the temple trick. I built monuments and then the policy gave me free Mud Pyramids in all my cities (once I had Philosophy). It is +2 culture, as well as +2 faith, so a culture building.
I have units with amphibious altitude training, first time for everything.

You also need shrines right, because they are a prereq for temples. And you need to avoid researching drama, because then amphitheaters will pop out.

Africa map is so huuuuge! I would ot be able to do it on standard pace ;/
