Nice post, after all (Proto)Kemalists were heavily involved in the massacres of the Kurds and armenians, one of the reasons you can't speak about it 'til today. Not to mind the are generally not the nice kind of nationalist. Sister of my (turkish) ex-gf:"Kurds aren't humans, the are monsters and should all be put down." She's not alone with this idea, far from it.

Not to mention that the one and most important reason against the membership is simply economics. We can't pay for Turkey, the current burden in intra-EU development funding is high enough.

This poll lacks the option for which I would have voted:

Turkey should be allowed into the EU but should choose not become a member.

I guess that makes me one of those reactionary modernists in Verbose's excellent post.

My feelings exactly. Instead, the West allowed genocide to happen.

lmao turks are also responsible for killing of native americans which is definetly a kemalist genocide

europeans should stop treating turkey like a buffer zone and stop speaking out promises that they cant keep.

I thought it was Turkey who didn't fill out their promises: human rights of kurdish people, the whole cyprus ordeal, quality standards of goods...

I voted after some reforms. Probation time is not consistent with other nation requirements. Have them convert to the standard Euro-governing and all is well.
