Summary
Unbeknownst to me, the clearing of the forest seems to occur before the production from that tile is brought into the cities production box. Thus, the 10s we were expecting from our laborers, only yielded 8s as the forest was cleared at the beginning of this turn.

I struggled with the idea of switching the production in the city to settler immediately, rather than waste all but 2s from this next turn's production, but there were no council members to override the current queue. Also, the original strategy of producing another spearman for defense of the capitol still has much merit even if it is a turn late.

On the upside, I was able to shorten the discovery of Ceremonial Burial from 3 turns to 2 and netted an extra 1gpt to boot by realigning our labor force in Zhi Gang. It was possible to discover Ceremonial Burial in 1 turn, but would require a deficit of 6spt. Considering our future need for gold and the fact that we do not need Ceremonial Burial next turn as opposed to two turns from now, I opted to leave it as it was.

Points of Interest/Instructions for next turn
  • I would recommend removing the warrior from the queue in Shen Ling and begin producing a settler immediately after completion of the spearman. A settler in 5 is better than a warrior in 2, and we really need the settler now.
  • The worker has begun construction of the road to the gold hill. It will be completed in 5 turns.
  • Our military advisor (in game) is warning us of a barbarian tribe near Shen Ling. We should send our warrior from Shen Ling out to collect tribute once the spearman is complete.

It now looks as if we don't need to buy CB from GC. I say we still sell/trade it to Apoplyton.

I'm starting to think we are playing too conservatively.

I agree, we need more settlers.

Also, since we are about to waste 5 shields, we shoulda moved some of the river forests workers to those grasslands by the rivers.

I think we don't need too much military at this point. We need PLACES to make military.

i agree, better to spend money on future production we know we will need then to spend it on units now when were not even at war

We need at least 2 settler (probably 3) before we start any major military production again.

We need PLACES to make military.

This is important. With more cities, we can have a larger military in the end than we would if we didn't settle enough cities.

I originally had one warrior before the settler, but that is not crucial, as the journey to our next city site is almost all through our own land, so we dont really need a settler escort.

So, updated queue:
Shen Ling: Spearman (1), Settler (3), Warrior, Settler, Settler, Settler...

Also, feel free to down some forests to speed the settler. Just not forests we plan on using, as they cant come back until Engineering.
