TV-01: A Noble Beginning

I guess that makes FlamingLnfernal up.

For any lurkers out there:

We could use a couple of temp players who actually have a working civ disk, a working computer, some time to spare, and most importantly, who can do something unusual for this game and actually play a complete turnset and produce a save and a report afterwards. Otherwise Angry Korea Man is going to finish before this game.

Inherited Turn: Lowered Science to 40%, down to -4GPT. I'm thinking I'll pillage Ghandi's remaining cities. Accidently requested peace with Ghandi...So I'll reboot save.

Inherited Turn started the same way as it did last time. Noticed that most other cvis would give us Drama for Banking or Chemistry. NO DEAL! Pillaged a Town around Madras.

Turn 1: IBT Cathy requests Chemistry. NO DEAL! 5 Cities produce knights, and all of them are now producing Banks because none need Markets/Grocer's Happyness/Sickness benefits. Troops now surround Madras from all sides, and the Iron below Madras now is pillaged (and its guardian dead).

Turn 2: Cathy declares on Ghandi IBT. Indian Knight pillages something...it dissappeared too quickly. I'm still planning on peace afer Madrid. Grenadier completed in Cuzco, now building Forbidden Palace. Next player can veto if he gets to it quickly enough. Hey, we've got a Great Artist in Berlin. I'm going to bomb in Delhi so that the Russians can't take it. The invasion of Madras starts VERY well. Catapault withdraws at .5%, wins @ 1.6%, and withdraws at 15%. Eventually we win with only 2 WE as casualties. +175 gold, Keep Madras, and make peace for 10 gold + 1GPT + Drama/Optics. Now we're getting +20GPT with Printing Press in 12 @ 40%.

Turn 3: Cyrus begins a GA. Judaism spreads in Cologne. Nothing else special.

Turn 4: Bombed Delhi with GA. Nothing else special.

Will play rest later

And I'm an idiot who didn't save....

Replaying now.

So far, after the Inherited Turn and Turn 1, everything is the same, except that the Forbidden Palace is being built in Cumae, and Cathy didn't make the demand. Additionally, Egyptian revolt in Macchu Picchu and we had fewer casualties in the assault of Madras.

Turn 2: I laugh off Gandhi's demand for Chemistry (peace made last turn for same deal). Cuzco completes Theatre and now is building a library. Aryan falls to Cathy. Gandhi has 1 city left.

Turn 3: Same as before.

Turn 4: Same as before. I love culture bombs.

Turn 5: Novgorod pops a Great Something (Russian city). I play with some workers, having them build roads. Nothing incredible.

Turn 6: I've ordered several cities to build Christian or Jewish Monasteries to increase our science. Cathy changes civics to Theocracy/Vassalage.

Turn 7: I laugh at Gandhi's trade offer. Printing Press (what we're researching) for Chemistry.

Turn 8: Gandhi emancipates, then is crushed by the Russians. Yay? Delhi's borders are huge now and we might be able to steal Lahore from the Russians...

Turn 9: I threaten to bludgeon Huyana Capac unless he gives us Printing Press. 3 turns saved! (I figure we will wipe him out soon enough. Relationship remains "Cautious" with him. I send Frankfurt a defender so that it isn't naked anymore. Now Aiming for STEEL in 16. We're now getting +61 GPT. For now I'm not tinkering with the slider so we can get some gold.

Final Turn: I trade Rice to Cathy for Furs. War weariness cost us dearly in Cuzco and a few scattered cities while we were at war with Ghandi. Other than that, I do just about nothing.

So I got my computer back about a half hour ago. We and my friend managed to export all my stuff while in safe mode and then went about reformatting it. Unfortunately that wasn't working as the comp wouldn't read the xp discs so we had to use daemon tools of all things to get it running. We partitioned off my XP install onto a separate drive from the rest of my junk so I can easily fix this if it happens again as well. What a nightmare. Well in any case if you want me to next I will or I can just wait till my next turn comes around. Up to you guys.

Go ahead and play the next turnset, Tivrames.

Diplomatically it looks good, we have Cathy on our side and Hatty is her worst enemy. That means we can trim down the military considerably (they're about to get outdated anyway) and switch back to Organized Religion. Just be careful when refusing Cathy's demands, she could drop to Pleased and then backstab us.

With most of the land we should win the space race with ease, or we can go with domination once we get a sufficient tech advantage on Hatty and Cyrus.

I'll play as soon as civ4 is done downloading from direct2drive.

EDIT: Does anyone know why my direct2drive download would keep stopping at 53%? This is very annoying.

I have no idea why anyone would use Direct2Drive. Why not pay the same amount of money at a store for CDs that can be used to reinstall the game? There's also no huge download to wait for.

I originally bought it while at college when I didn't have access to a car to get around. You can re-download it as much as you want too. I went to the movies and it's still not going though. I'm going to try resetting the router and then try again. If I don't post a turnset tonight azaris you better just go.

Ah ha! It worked. I don't have photoshop re-installed yet so no pics this time, but I'll have it in once my next turn comes around.

Inherited Turn) Begin the disbanding of our army. Convert to Organized Religion. Bring our income to +94.

1) Organized Religion is adopted.

2) Berlin -> Jewish Synagogue, Hamburg -> Bank, Munich -> Theater.

3) Munich -> Aqueduct, Cologne -> Bank, Cumae -> Granary, Cuzco -> Globe Theatre, Bombay -> Library, Rome loves the monarch!

4) Lionhead -> Jewish Missionary, Antium -> Granary, Tiwanaku -> Theater, Dehli -> Bank, Rome celebrates their love of us again.

5) Lionhead -> Bank, Rome -> Theater, Calcutta -> Library, Missionary converts Cologne to judaism.

6) Cumae -> Theater, Madras -> Courthouse.

7) Munich -> Jewish Missionary, Rome -> Jewish Temple, Antium -> Theater, Cumae -> Library, Tiwanaku -> Library. Hat discovers Liberalism.

8) Berlin -> National Epic. Machu Picchu revolts to Egypt! (I must have missed the post in which it revolted the first time). What a loss :\.

9) Antium -> Jewish Temple, Frankfurt -> Jewish Temple. Used excess gold to modernize our military.

10) Munich -> Jewish Temple. Our income is now +187 :D (Now that I think about it I think I forgot to up the research slider. Whoever goes next should get on that).

Amazing, an actual builder turnset.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Got a Great Engineer, built Taj Mahal. We have a lot of infrastructure built now.

Turn 0: Configure Lionhead to run specialists so we have a bigger chance of getting a GE there. I order up some jewish missionaries to jew up a couple of cities. My attempts to beg for Education end up in a bunch of face slapping and head shaking. I make up for it by demanding HC's 100 gold as tribute.

Turn 1: Need to adjust Hamburg to run a citizen so it doesn't hijack Lionhead's GP.

Turn 3: Heron (Great Engineer) is born in Lionhead. He heads over to Berlin. Steel is in, let's get Education next. We have almost caught up in tech. Since we have no wonders to build, I make this trade.

Turn 4: Heron constructs the Taj. I think the boost is worth giving up a monopoly tech and spending a GE.

Turn 5: Our GA starts. Cologne starts Hermitage to push back those borders.

Turn 6: Berlin builds University in 1 turn with 200 hammers per turn. Researching Liberalism now.

Turn 7: Cologne needs a farm chain to help it grow.

Turn 8: Still no luck begging for techs.

Turn 9: Universities and markets are popping up everywhere. Cathy is still building a huge army, she must be planning to invade Egypt sooner or later.

Turn 10: There's still a few turns of GA to go so suggest working max tiles and building stuff until it's over. Then we should change civics to better ones, wait for Constitution to finish and then maybe go Representation + Free Speech.

Once we get MilTrad we could go for a DP with Cathy. Keep her happy no matter what it takes. She could win or lose this game for us.

Sorry. I was so used to people not playing, or playing half a turn. I can take it now if you guys want.

Turn 0: Look around. Hit enter.

Turn 1: Build some more infra.

Turn 2: Look at our cities. Re-arrange some tiles to work cottages. We need mature ones.

Turn 3: Constitution comes in. Switch to representation and start on Military Tradition. Cavalry! Throw up more infra. A GM is born. He would lightbulb a decent amount of economics. However, that doesn't make much sense to sacrafice a GM for another GM. He goes to trade! He'll net us 1700. GM economy please!

Turn 4: I don't quite understand why we're in Bureaucracy when we have Free Speech. Revolt!

Turn 5: We have a FAT wad of cash now. Thank you GM.

Turn 6: :coffee:

Turn 7: Military Tradition comes in! I fire up a mix of cavalry and infrastructure. I also start on Democracy. Seems like the proper choice. I also get a DP with Cathy. GG.

Turn 8: :coffee:

TUrn 9: Some more infra and cavs. I leave Oxford University and Ironworks to the next person.

Turn 10: Cathy demands Military Tradition. I had to give in. A GA is born in Berlin. I put him to sleep and let the next person decide. Democracy will also finish on the next turn. The next few turns will be pretty big. So no pressure. Or anything.

Turn 4: I don't quite understand why we're in Bureaucracy when we have Free Speech.

Because we got Liberalism while we were in the Golden Age. No point revolting at in the middle of that.

It's looking good, we can run research at 90% for ages and really catch Cathy and Cyrus in tech.

Remember that Cathy can backstab us at Pleased, so maybe we should tech towards Assembly Line just in case she gets any funny ideas.

Calcutta could use a culture bomb.

Notice how all the AIs are skint for cash. I think it's an effect of unit upgrades but also our use of Mercantilism. Consider carefully whether we want to switch to Free Market or not.

I think we should stay in Mercantilism. Free Market isn't the greatest thing, and Mercantilism really boosts Representation.
