The wiki says that Acheron has no movement, so it was a little surprising to see him show up outside my city walls on about turn 100 (Marathon).

It's not exactly fair that the Barbs get a dragon so early in the game if it's going to go around laying siege to cities. Is there an easy way to modify the game so that Acheron doesn't do this while still doing everything else that he does?

On a related note - I think barbarian cities add something to the game, but randomly generated Barbarians are just plain annoying. You can't go more than a few tiles from you city without being eaten by a gryphon or polar bears. If I create a custom game with "Barbarian World" and "No Barbarians" selected, can I get the Barbarian cities without the randomly generated junk? Or will I need to do something fancier?

Acheron should turn up in a barbarian city at about turn 100 and his cronies should send out fireballs and fire elementals soon after. You can deal with it. When you see a message that the dragon is preparing to settle nearby you can sometimes send out some warriors and conquer the city first. If you can't do that you can still build up some basic defences and culture in your border cities and keep out of his way.

If Acheron is spawning out in the open somewhere then it's a bug and you should get your game patched up to date.

Erebus is meant to be a dangerous place. Build some scouts to look for animals. Expect some scouts to die when they find animals in the wrong place at the wrong time. Build hunters to capture the animals later.

randomly generated Barbarians are just plain annoying.

Isn't that the point?

Send out scouts and hunters with Subdue animal. You can then get Wolves, Bears, Lions and if your lucky, an elephant or a gryphon.

I am using FFH 2 with patch 'o', therefore there is no patch for me to install.

I will try animal taming.

Acheron came out of his city to attack me.

Please post of copy of your saved game. If you still have it, a copy from before and another from after Acheron left his city would be ideal.

Also, had you made any changes to game files before starting that game?

We should also test to see if anything with Acheron has changed with patch o. Unfortunately, sometimes new bugs are introduced with patches. If anyone else sees Acheron reproting oddly, please report it.

Best wishes,

Breunor
