Started playing as Japs for the first time. My starting position was somewhere in Mongolia, and I founded my first city. Turn 3 (!!!!!) I am informed of a massive barbarian uprising. I've never seen that so early in the game before.
Sure enough, before I could even get my first warrior trained, the Huns (or something, they were all horsemen) descend upon my town. Not only do they sack it mercylessly, they do it four turns in a row! A grit my teeth and play on. Making my first warrior (by this time the Japs had sworn never to be undefended again) and then a settler. Oh, yeah, my worker was killed as well.
Settler start marching south, and found another city. They build a warrior. Then...again a massive uprising!!!! My other city is swept away after a bitter battle. My newly build worker (from my capito) is hunted down and slaughtered. I am back to square one again.
Then comes the Babs, the Russians, the English and the Indians, demanding tribute. My jap civ is not only the worst in the world, it is the puniest I've ever seen. I cannot pay the Russians, so they declare war. babs join in next turn. Just in time I get some chariots, and launch an desperate offensive with my three brave units. A warrior and an archer is sent off to deal with the ruskies. Against all odds, I take two cities, on russian, one babylonian.
This reaaly turned the game around. I embarked on a new road of conquest, slaughtering the babs with my samurai and cultrure flipping other nations. I am now the largest civ on the face of the planet, and will soon complete my destruction of the babs.
lesson, never give up. Hang in and things might change...
