Two Quick Questions...

Hey all-

Some of these are pretty basic, but I couldn't figure it out on my own....

1) Resource bonus: When I get access to copper (+1 Hammer), where is that bonus applied? I noticed that a new city (pop 1) only had one production hammer, even tho it showed that it had access to copper. In other words, there was one hammer being 'worked', and one hammer shown in the production cue. But on the right, it showed access to copper with the +1 H bonus... My capital seems to get the bonus hammer when I count all the worked hammers and add one. Does it only help your capital?

2) I was attacking a nearby enemy on his lands. I had two identical axeman. One on a blank hill, and one in a flat forest. My 'mouse over' told me that the hill unit had +25% defense from tile, while the forest unit had +50% defense. Am I missing something? I though both hill and forest were +50%. Did something change?

(I can post screen shots later tonight if that helps...)

Thanks!

1) Oh- Maybe I miss counted in my capital then... I didn't think the copper was in the BFC... but maybe I don't remember clearly...

2) I was reading out of one of DJ-anions manuals... Perhaps it is a typo in that version of it... I'll double check the civlopedia/manual/game when I get home...

Oh, I remember the third question I had!
3) I got attacked by Mao... this is still in the age of axemen... I noticed that during one wave of attack, some of the units had a 'support structure' attacking my city with it. Looked like a tower that one would push to get over city walls and was only part of the battle animation... not it's own unit (as far as i could tell). I defeated 3 or 4 units with that tower attached, and then the rest of the attacking units didn't have a tower... What does that mean?

Thanks!

1) only the copper tile gets the +1:hammers: bonus

Wait- i just had a follow up thought.... If only a worked resource tile get's the bonus, What is the purpose of trading for non-unit required resources (like fish, or Crabs) before corporations? If I can't 'work' that tile, what is the point of getting fish?

Is it only production bonus that must be worked? but health and food are applied to every city without working the tile in that city?

Color me confused....

Thanks for clearing up the animation issue, doomed!

Yes

And you can use resources outside your city area but within your cultural area (eg. mine Iron outside your city area to give access to Iron in all citys connected by a trade network)

I believe to can also get access to resources outside your cultural area by building a fort on it and connecting roads, but I have never needed to try this.

To get the production bonus (hammers / food / gold) you must work the tile.
To get the resource bonus (happy faces / health / possibility of building a certain unit) you only need to have the resource tile in your cultural borders and connected to your trade network.

So, if you have the resource in your borders and connected to your trade network you get the resource and its general bonus (happy faces / health / possibility of building a certain unit), if you also have it in a City's fat cross you can work it to get the production bonus (hammers / food / gold) in that tile.

Hope that answers your question.
