Typ XXIII submarine

It's primarily because the when the Puritans left England (you know, the guys that banned music playing in public and just about anything fun) they came to America. Yes! Escape religious persecution so that we are free to religiously persecute here! No irony whatsoever!

Aw, the Puritans were not really that bad. :nono: :) They banned a lot of the revelry that was prevalent at the time, but they did so in the best devotion to their faith and God and believed that what they were doing was going to help people reach a better state of being. In fact, I suggest if you ever get time and the fancy strikes you, read the book A Revolutionary People at War by Charles Royster. It's not about the Puritans per se, but it about the American Revolution and deals with the religiosity that the Americans inherited from the Puritans, and their attitudes when they declared independence. Really interesting stuff.

DK is actually going to quit doing art now because of all the criticism. :(
aHEM?
If I remember correctly, a good deal of that "damaging criticism" came from YOU as well. No one's made me 'quit' (which I ain't anymore, got my wits about me) except myself. I'm sick of you guys flaming yourselves down and pissing others off with your crap, stop it, both of you. In fact GO, it was a message from you which made me go goddamn insane and decide to quit. Then an hour of thinking and I changed my mind. I'm not mad at either of you, but seriously, stop the crap. We can co exist on this forum.

Why the hell do we care so much about 3D graphics for a game? :nuke:

Err...nice sub btw...

The Octavian Empire has a strong defensive policy: we do not seek war or to attack anyone, but if you attack us we will retaliate. :p

Translation: I do not flame or criticize anybody (except for polite and helpful criticism), but I try to temper it when possible with statements of moderation. But if somebody attacks my position or distorts it I certainly reply.

Why he'll never learn just to say "F* YOU" and get on with his life... :nono:

Sorry for...err...hijacking your thread btw...

Because that's not very nice, and I try to take a stance of moderation when possible.

Now everyone, please, let's get back on topic. This is a really good submarine and I hope we have not discouraged The Coyote from making many more excellent units.

You can do it man!

some hours not here and what happend, this thread becomes a chat :crazyeye:, thanks for the replies, but please discuss this model (what could be done better, etc (constructive critic ;) )

This unit is good to replace the default Sub :)

I like the idea of alternating your models there. How about another ship, the glorious Surcouf- a one of a kind Underwater Cruiser that predated all modern ships.

I actually would second the request for the Surcouf.. if nothing more then to silence troytheface! :groucho:

From an artistic point of view one could create a surface ship with a single gun, that has a plane circling above and said ship can submerge. Seems that this would be a stronger visual than a mere boat with a flag float'n around.
The Manassas is a predecessor- a converted tugboat that had a valiant history and was the greatest ironclad of the Civil War.

very nice unit :)

thanks for discussing the model again ;)

@ CivGeneral

i don´t think so, it was more a coastal submarine (only 2 Torpedos), the Typ XXI was the one planed for the atlantic. i made this model because after the war it this typ was used by the German Bundesmarine as the first submarine after the war. And even new small submarines still look similar to this typ

@ troytheface

i don´t think that altering this model will give a good Surcouf. the surcouf would need an entire new model, and even it was important as symbol for free french, with the start of the war this kind of ship (submarine cruiser) was obsolut.
So i cant say if there will be a model or if i will made it. But why you not try yourself? All programs i use cost nothing.

Ciao

well thanks for the response there ol Coyote. Do you have a link/name to any of those free programs?

@ Xenomorph

:crazyeye: sometime it would be better to be silent, but yes the XXI is in my long time plan (and some other submarines)

@ troytheface

i personally use blender for modelling (another free alternativ is Gmax - it´s a reduced version form 3dmax 4 iirc), for making the skins there are Gimp (could be that you need the DDS plugin) and Paint.net.

Additonal you need nifskope and for example the niftools for blender (http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/NifTools) to export your model (C.Roland made a tutorial)

and you need something like this (at least the "work" is a lot easier: http://alaboc.ifrance.com/images/navires/france/surcouf.gif)

ciao

thanks again for all the info there Coyote. Reading some of that NIF stuff tho i may have to take a step or 2 backwards.
