Shutting down is not a money saving gesture. It will cost us overall.

But the irony is terrific given that the superficial goal is the a compromising reduction of spending.

It doesn't take much to open envelopes and deposit incoming checks(essential employees).
It takes more work to process tax forms and issue refunds (non-essential employees).

You didn't think they'd ALL be at home Monday, did you ?

Are these the budget cuts that Paul Ryan proposed that would essentially give anyone that isn't rich the bird?

Why do anything today what can be put off for later.

I mean when you get paid either way, it's the sensible thing to do.

Let me guess, the Dems gave in and cut funding to some program unpopular with the social conservatives. Most likely related to Woman's Health.

Only 3% of their yearly services include abortion, and no federal funding goes toward that. The majority of their services go toward cancer screening, treatment and detection of STDs, other forms of family planning, and many times in rural areas, providing basic clinincal care.

Pretty much. The rich get a pass on any responsibility. Children, both short run and long run, take the worst of it.

    It is deceptive accounting

According to Abby Johnson who worked at PP for eight years and was a director for two years of that
Remember, Planned Parenthood offers mammograms. Or not...

Funding for it should still be pulled. Be real. Pulling federal funding wouldnt be the end of planned parenthood. It would probably make up the difference in direct private donations and such.

Considering the questionable practices that came out about them this past year, tax dollars shouldnt be going to them.

You really don't think this is actually about reducing government spending, do you? If that was actually the case there would be massive defense cuts and we would stop meddling in everybody else's affairs. It is clearly about axing programs the far-right have been dying to cut ever since their inception, much as using the shortfalls in the Wisconsin budget this year to try to destroy unions.

NPR gets $450M. You could save that much by cutting what the US military spends on subsidizing auto racing for propaganda purposes and closing a handful of golf courses on military bases.

And cutting funding to Planned Parenthood will actually increase government spending.

It is a shame that so many Republican legislators are so corrupt and deceitful that they feel the need to pretend that all this is about cutting costs, when it is obviously just furthering their own provincial political agendas.

So....if a republican makes a campaign promise to make budget cuts, and in voting on the budget they do vote for budget cuts.....

They are 'corrupt and deceitful' for pretending to support budget cuts?

    Wow. Just wow.

Whether PP should be funded or not is a debate in itself. To call for funding to be pulled because you don't like how they are trying to prevent unwanted pregnancies and transmission of STD's is your problem.
Or is your own self-righteous indignation at their services valid enough reason to condemn many other to suffer because they lack services and options?

But tax dollars should still be going to farm subsidies, which do little more then make Cargill richer, when it is already one of the wealthiest comapnies in the world?
