Given that Truss was just elected on a 57% share of a quarter of 1% of the UK population, one might fairly suggest that she's trying to rig a vote that she fears she might lose.

Johnson massively accelerated the rot by throwing everyone who disagreed with him out of the party, and then only promoting those stupid or boring enough not to upstage him. That's why everyone left in the Tory party is mediocre, at best.

Well the way I see it:

Historically in the UK, in general the major parties would only select people as their
candidates for MPs if they had demonstrated achievement in activities outside politics.

The very concept of politics as an career path itself has reduced the input of people
with real experience.

Not entirely UK politics, but partly about politics too (devolution ) :
I noticed that, unlike in football, in basketball there is a "Great Britain" team.
I suppose not many in the UK care about basketball, but any reason to leave northern Ireland out of it (and is it only left out of the name?)? Maybe there isn't even a basketball association there.
