Wealthy individuals hailing from Europe, the Middle East and Africa have been exiting Britain since early 2024 amid a wave of tax reforms. The most unsettling measure is the scrapping at the weekend of a preferential regime for non-domiciled residents, which allowed individuals to avoid UK taxes on their overseas earnings for as long as 15 years. The amendments are discouraging many foreigners from buying homes in the UK, particularly in the flashiest parts of London.

Well, good. If you don't want to be taxed, don't live in the country.

Further collapse of the anti-far right firewall: Kemi Badenoch condones Tories forming pacts with Reform

At local level, we end up with various coalitions. I’ve seen Conservatives go into coalition with Labour, with Liberal Democrats, with independents. You don’t get to have a rerun of an election at local level.

So what I’m telling local leaders across the country is they have to do what is right for the people in their area, and they must stick to conservative principles, make sure that they’re not compromising on our values and on the things that we believe in – sound money, for example, not excessive government intervention.

So local leaders are voted by the people in a particular community. They will have to make the choice about what is right for their councils.

I think the collapse was when Badenoch was elected in the first place, as her policies are virtually indistinguishable from Farage's (other than, you know, staying in the country and actually being an MP).

That's what I thought when I saw it at the Guardian!

It seems that Parliament will sit on Saturday to discuss the possible nationalisation of British Steel. What's the bet that the odious Farage will have business elsewhere at the time?
