Hi,
I'm recovering from a HDD crash and have had to reinstall Windows 7 on my PC. Obviously the first thing I want to do after installing all the OS updates is get Civilization up. However none of the version I've got want to work:
Civ5: After some messing about with permissions to certain directories I've been able to get Steam installed. However when I try to launch it a windows pops up saying that it trying to update Steam. This scrolls up to 27% before it tells me that: "Steam is temporarily unavailable; please try later". After about 30 seconds the Window goes away. I've no idea what to do now, so I've dropped back to Civ 4...
Civ4: This appears to install as expected, but when I start the application nothing appears on the screen at all! The task manager briefly contains "Civilisation4.exe", but this goes away very quickly. I can't even find a log file to tell me what went wrong, so I've dropped back to Civ 3...
Civ 3: The goods new is that this works!
I've Installed all 3 games to C:\Games\Civ_ as I know later versions of the OS are picky about special directories.
Does anybody know how to get Civs 4 and 5 running under Windows 7?
