Unable to select new leader/civ after patch

I have a new problem after the patch. When I try to set up a new game, and I click on the leader to select a new one, the new choice window comes up but the game freezes on me immediately. I can, however, start a new game with the same leader as before. Anyone else having this problem? As for the rest of the patch, the game continues to freeze on me randomly, generally once or twice a session, but it seems to do so less than before (three or four times in as many hours).

Try clearing the cache: Delete everything in My Documents\My Games\Civ5\Cache, and restart Civ (and Steam) afterwards.

Thanks for the suggestion. I cleared the cache but still could not open the select-a- new-leader screen without freezing the program. (The computer still works well on all other programs before and after such a freeze.) Any other suggestions?

If it makes a difference, system is new Sony VAIO Z series with i5 M 430 2.27GHz @ 2267 MHz; 4 MB RAM; NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M; running Win 7 Pro (64-bit).

mmhh...system looks okay...but how are the graphical settings? Especially high leader graphics are causing problems on some systems, so that could be related (should not, but you never know).
