Unexpected results after creating a colony

Played a standard size, hemispheres Emperor game and rolled Ragnar.
Was alone on a smaller island, while other six players were divided into batches of two on their respective landmasses.

Colossus plus Lighthouse got me going nicely. Was the first to Riflemen, upgraded my Berserkers (few of which had CRIII) and started to kick some butt.
Kublai was the first to become a vassal. Then Mansa. Then Sitting Bull. (The bugger was so stalwart, I had to leave him just with few islands next to his main landmass before he realized it was over). So I liberated his former mainland holdings, spawning Washington, meaning to create a bridgehead against Suleiman (He and Mao were two former leading dogs and I decided he'd be easier to take out).

Then turned against Julius, who had in the meantime spawned a 4-city Justinian on a nearby island. Declared on Justin, took him out first and decided to create another colony from his former realm.

Right after pressing the "liberate" button, Kublai, Mansa, Bull and Washington all broke off from me one after one, so that they were in war with me and amongst themselves as well

Reloaded, proceeded to wipe out Julius, who was too pissed with me and had too many Wonders to allow to linger. Tried to liberate Justin's former island again, out of curiosity. Same results.

My vassals were all at least "pleased" and far away from their respective pop/land thresholds for breaking off. Is such an occurrence a bug or an intended feature? I have never really played around much with colonies. And be it one or another, what conditions trigger it? :help:

You're using 3.13 patch without Bhruic, right? That is a bug from 3.13 that makes new civs ( colonies ) to sometimes resume diplo status and culture of a dead civ ...

Install Bhruic's patch or 3.17 that (suposedely ) solve that and replay from before the colony generation

Don't bother with Bhruic's unofficial patch. There's a new official patch from Firaxis, 3.17, that incorporates most of Bhruic's fixes, including that one.
