No Beatles? Alfred Hitchcock?

There was a mod for vanilla (and I think Warlord) CIV that I really liked, which gave each civ specific GP's, so no more Shakespeare for Germans or Incas or whatever. Obviously, it cannot be simply transfered to BTS as new ones would have to be added for new civs, which is no small feat for ancient civs, but it would be very nice to have that again.

Some authors of the 20th century...
Ernest Hemingway
Louis L'Amour (spelling?)
Stephen King
Ayn Rand
C.S.Lewis
J.R.R.Tolkien
Albert Camus
Jean-Paul Sartre
Simone De Beauvoir

Atlas Shrugged seems very contemporary to what is happening in the U.S. lately. Amazing for a fifty year old book. :D

True. Ayn Rand is one of my top 3 writers which I've always found kind of interesting since I'm opposed to most of her views. She can certainly turn a phrase though.

I'm actually quite surprised that Hemingway wasn't included in the original game. I've read that the opeining paragraph of "Old Man and the Sea" is the, "Greatest single paragraph ever written."

And for another non-author great artist you'd have to include:
Orson Welles

He basically invented the craft of movie direction on-the-spot for Citizen Kane (even though none of his others movies ever lived up to his first).

One of the most influential and popular artistic movements of the last 100+ years has no representatives on that list.

He may be nowhere near my favourite practitioner, but if I wanted to pick a late 20th/early 21st century figure from that movement to be added to that list of great people - while taking account of both the overall quality and popularity of his work - it has to be Spielberg.

Hitchcock is a good choice too.

I agree. I just read it for the first time about a month ago. It was amazing. Definitely one of my favorite books of all time.

Jackie Chan.

If Houdini counts as a Great Artist, I would vote for him. A routine headliner.

If you are including Michael Jackson because his music combined with music videos tips the scales, you're gonna end up letting Cher in. She reinvented the non-funny comedy/variety TV show; was a pop Diva; Moonstruck, etc. Also pioneered in fashion of overusage of cosmetic surgery.

No one fills the Forum like Neil Diamond.

The Germans love David Hasselhoff.

Have to toss in Jerry Lee Lewis to remind the French of how weak their sense of comedy is.

If you let Sinatra in, soon you have tough guys in your office making an offer you can't refuse to let Sammy Davis, Jr. in also!

Sounds like Ann Rand should be a Great Prophet. Oh, and she called me to say that if you aren't including Frank Lloyd Wright, she doesn't want any part of it.

Are you quite sure about that? ;)

For the record, the (original) Great People are supposed to be listed in chronological order in XML. Hence, Homer is the most ancient and Miles Davis is the most recent.

<- First post.

I'd have to agree with Roman Polansky, say Stanley Kubrick, Pedro Almodóvar, Tim Burton, Steven Spielberg, etc, etc, or any other good movie director of expression, but that is cause I'm a sucker for cinema.

Actually, actors fit into the artist category too. It's strange there is none of either them or directors in the list.

:band:

Lots of great directors (and actors) they could consider. Coen Brothers, George Kukor, Fellini, Bergman, etc.

Welcome to the Forums Klunc.

How about Leonard Bernstein or Andrew Lloyd Webber? Within their field both have been very influential.

From what I read, Leodard Bernstein is "is one of the most influential figures in the history of American classical music."

& as for Andrew Lloyd Webber, apparently has every artistic award ever given lol :king:"...three Tony Awards, three Grammy Awards, an Oscar, an International Emmy, six Olivier Awards, a Golden Globe, and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2006."

composers, actors, directors, & the list goes on... its better than some of the no-names in the vanilla lol.

After editing the UnitInfos & Text in the mod folder, my guys started to appear...:D:gp::culture:

LOL, I will have to mod in some of my favorites too. BTW, I was completely unaware of these new renaissance looking GAs, weren't they all Elvises?

anyone remember in vanilla, when you reached the modern era it would say "Great Prophet has been born in Thebes" because they ran out of great prophet names. that used to make me chuckle!
