I was playing as Songhua today and Hanoi gifted me a Cho-Ku-Nu. I didn't realize until I attacked a barbarian with it a few turns later and realized I had another attack. Getting UUs from militaristic city states makes befriending them a little more worthwhile for me. Anybody else get UUs from a militaristic city state? Does each city state have access to it's own UU or is it just random?

Perhaps not quite in line, but I've had a city state notice about them seeking a great artist, only to have them give me one next turn, which then they recognised the following turn :crazyeye:

Really? Well... add this to the list of imbalances/bugs.

(Note: Not the great artist one when using that Patronage policy. That was merely luck since the great person gifted is random. It must've been nice! :goodjob:)

Probably a bug. Imbalanced? Since nobody likes militaristic city-states, this might be the first thing I've heard that could balance them out ;)

Also, if you're Greece for example, City-states give you Horsemen instead of Companion Cavalry.

I've always been annoyed with militaristic city-states. The worst is when you're gifted a scout.

I was once gifted a scout two times in a row by the same city-state.

Which is the opposite of the original post.

It makes sense for them to give the generic unit. They aren't you, after all.

Hehe, I had that except the relevant GP was a Great Merchant, who of course immediately conducted a Trade Mission for even more influence; that CS really wanted to be my ally :)

I've seen them give a GDR once at like 350 turnish.

Although it isn't impossible to have GDRs at that time(I finished the pre-reques several turns before), city states giving out GDR at that time is very balance breaking. not to mention unrealistic on terms of historic realism or game logic(they themselves didnt have mech. inf. or even uranium).

Oh, to add I have only played like 3 Civ 5 games, so I would also assume CSs giving out GDRs aren't that rare.

Possibly another civ gifted that unit to them, which they then gifted to you...?

The units that they gift to you seem to have no relation to what they have themselves.

Yep, they'll gift you any unit you have the technology for, whether or not they have it. Since units take so long to build, this is a really nice advantage when you have several militaristic states, as they tend to give you something you recently got the tech for. I frequently get new unit types from city states long before I get around to building them for myself. In my current game as the Songhai I have several militaristic city states, the last unit I made for myself was a crossbow when I got machinery, and I have an army of modern units.

This happens to me too. I always just gift them right back.
