Do you think most of the units cost too much initially? I'm kind of leaning that way. One idea I've always been meaning to try, but haven't yet, is to make most units use a pop point, but cost much less in shields and maybe cost more for support. That way, you can raise forces quickly, but it would not be advantageous to keep them around for a long time.

Can you give any unit the "Join City" option? If not, I probably won't have them take up a pop point.

Anyway, has anyone messed with unit costs? Or tried the pop point approach?

If you make units too cheap and make them cost pop, the cities would become really really small. I think I heared that the AI only very rarely uses the join city option. In my experience its very unbalancing. You could give a few units a pop cost, but not too many.

Hm. In that case, I might just lower the shield cost and raise the support cost. The AI does disband units if it needs to, I think. I don't want every civ to collapse under the cost of unit support.
